14 Possible Causes for Abdominal Fullness, CT Scan showing Adrenal Mass, Increased Basal Metabolic Rate

  • Endometriosis

The remainder of the examination shows no abnormalities. His fasting serum aldosterone:renin ratio is increased. A CT scan shows a 1-cm, left adrenal mass.[] A large hypermetabolic solid mass in the left pelvic wall and several lymph nodes with elevated FDG activity were noted, which indicated malignancy.[] Full thickness rectal wall excision sample was reported to be histologically complete and confirmed endometriosis.[]

  • Angiomyolipoma

The follow-up 18F-FDG PET/CT scan showed a nearly complete resolution of the previously detected adrenal mass, with very low tracer uptake and a decrease in its functional[] Multiple hypermetabolic pulmonary metastases were also noted.[] Accordingly, hepatic AML may provoke upper abdominal pain, sensations of early satiety and fullness. Tumors may be palpable and sensitive to pressure.[]

  • Renal Cell Carcinoma

Computer tomography (CT) scan showed a solid right renal lesion, multiple liver metastases, florid chest, lymphadenopathy in left supraclavicular region and a right adrenal[] In addition, the patient had 2 hypermetabolic uterine leiomyomas.[] She was also found to have vague abdominal fullness, although it was only after biopsy of a clivus lesion identified on brain scanning that its true nature became apparent[]

  • Adrenocortical Carcinoma

CT scan of the abdomen revealed a 35 mm left adrenal mass.[] No metastasis or size increase of the remaining adrenal glands were found suggesting that their hypermetabolic state could be attributed to mitotane treatment.[] . • Tumor-related symptoms – Local symptoms: abdominal fullness, back pain, nausea and vomiting. – Systemic / metastatic futures: Anorexia, anaemia, asthenia and weight loss[]

  • Adrenal Gland Metastasis

    (a) US scan shows a septated cystic mass of the right adrenal gland (arrows). (b) Contrast material-enhanced CT scan shows a lobulated cystic mass with calcified septa.[] The PET/CT revealed a nodular hypermetabolic focus located on the left adrenal gland, measuring 2.5 2.6 2.8 cm, and the maximum standardized uptake value was 3.9 ( Fig. 1[] Patients with large adrenal tumors may experience feelings of abdominal fullness or localized pain.[]

  • Plasmablastic Lymphoma

scan of abdomen Click here to view Figure 3: Histopathology of biopsy from adrenal mass showing sheets of monomorphic large lymphoid cells with prominent nucleoli, scant[] A FDG-PET scan showed hypermetabolic areas in the pelvis. A bone marrow biopsy showed normocellular bone marrow with no evidence of involvement by malignant lymphoma.[] The patient then underwent a whole body positron emission tomography–computed tomography (PET-CT) scan, which revealed hypermetabolic masses in most organs.[]

  • Hepatocellular Carcinoma

Fig 2 [ 18 F]Fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography (PET)–computed tomography (CT) scan.[] However, intense hypermetabolic activity in muscles of the abdominal wall was noted.[] Children who have hepatocellular carcinoma are typically diagnosed when their parents or doctor notice an abdominal mass or fullness.[]

  • Adrenal Hemorrhage

Abdominal CT scan ( Figures 2 and 3 ) showed a mass with spontaneous hyper-dense aspects in the hepato–renal space corresponding to the adrenal lodge.[] Imaging findings that may indicate underlying tumor include intralesional calcification, enhancement, and hypermetabolic activity on PET images.[] He achieved a full recovery and was discharged after 10 days. He returned within 24 hours with vague abdominal and chest pain.[]

  • Ganglioneuroma

USG and CT scan showed a well-defined heterogeneous left adrenal mass with solid and cystic components. MIBG Scan revealed a left adrenal mass. S.[] (d) FDG-PET-CT: moderately hypermetabolic lesion. Zoom The MRI confirmed the minimal uptake of contrast material after administration.[] GNB in a 5-year-old girl with right upper abdominal fullness. (a) Axial contrast-enhanced CT scan through the upper abdomen reveals a densely calcified right flank mass.[]

  • Orbital Metastasis

A thoracic- abdominal CT scan showed an 83 mm*43 mm*42 mm retroperitoneal heterogeneous mass located on the left adrenal gland (Figure 2 ) embracing vascular elements and[] (B) 18-FDG-PET scan showing multiple hypermetabolic lesions in the stomach, lymph nodes, liver, and bone.[] About one month after surgery, she complained of recurrent epigastric fullness and pain.[]
