1,229 Possible Causes for Abnormal Pulse

  • Acute Bronchitis

Pneumonia should be considered and ruled out when vital signs are abnormal (pulse greater than 100, respirations greater than 24/minute, or temperature greater than 100.4[] When recorded, significant vital sign abnormalities were uncommon, with 7% having a temperature of 100 degrees F and 8% having a pulse of 100 beats per minute or greater.[] Clinically important vital signs were frequently not recorded; temperature was missing from 34% of charts and pulse from 50% of charts.[]

  • Ventricular Fibrillation

Ventricular fibrillation is an abnormally irregular heart rhythm caused by rapid, ineffective, uncoordinated contraction of the ventricles which produce no peripheral pulse[] Ventricular fibrillation disrupts the synchrony between the heartbeat and the pulse beat.[] Patients in cardiac arrest have absent or abnormal (gasping) respirations.[]

  • Atrial Fibrillation

There is an initiative called "Check Your Pulse" aimed at identifying abnormal heart rates and patients with undiagnosed atrial fibrillation early.[] Atrial fibrillation is a heart condition that causes an irregular and often abnormally fast heart rate.[] Abnormal heartbeats also can be felt by taking a patient's pulse and by a doctor's diagnosis.[]

  • Cardiac Arrhythmia

The heart’s natural timekeeper – a small mass of special cells called the sinus node – can malfunction and develop an abnormal electrical impulse rate.[] An arrhythmia (also called dysrhythmia) is an irregular or abnormal heartbeat . What is my pulse?[] In these cases, the pulse rate increases due to adrenalin and a change in physiology is apparent.[]

  • Hip Dislocation

Your physician will look for lacerations and bruises, weakness, and abnormal pulses, sensation, and reflexes.[]

  • Erythema Chronicum Migrans

Erythema chronicum migrans is also associated with flu-like symptoms including fever, headache, fatigue, headache, sore throat, abnormal pulse, neck stiffness and pain, pain[]

  • Arteriovenous Fistula
