310 Possible Causes for Agenesis of Corpus Callosum, MRI Scan of the Brain Abnormal

  • Dandy-Walker Syndrome

Cranial ultrasonogram and computed tomography scan showed Dandy-Walker syndrome, agenesis of corpus callosum and hydrocephalus.[] Images will be taken of your child's brain. This can be done with: CT scan MRI scan Ultrasound Treatment Dandy-Walker syndrome cannot be cured.[] We report a new case of 5p deletion syndrome diagnosed prenatally in association with Dandy-Walker syndrome and agenesis of the corpus callosum.[]

  • Isolated optic nerve hypoplasia

Tang PH, Bartha AI, Norton ME et al (2009) Agenesis of corpus callosum: an MR imaging analysis of associated abnormalities in the fetus.[] A small chiasm is the only abnormality on brain MRI scanning. This group appears to overlap with NDRFFS.[] […] of the corpus callosum, dysplasia of the anterior third ventricle, and anomalies of the hypothalamic-pituitary axis.[]

  • Aicardi's Syndrome

Aicardi's syndrome, which is characterized by agenesis of the corpus callosum, specific chorioretinal abnormalities, and defects of vertebrae and ribs, is considered a probable[] These can be seen with a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) brain scan.[] Abstract Aicardi's syndrome is the association of three main features: infantile spasms, chorioretinopathia with lacunae and agenesis of the corpus callosum.[]

  • Septo-Optic Dysplasia

An uncommon association of infantile spasms, septo-optic dysplasia, partial agenesis of the corpus callosum and an interhemispheric cyst is described in a child.[] The brain specialist observes the brain structure by suing Computed tomography (CT) scan or Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) scan.[] In a discrete number of cases, schizencephaly, agenesis of the corpus callosum or other cortical malformations are associated (SOD-plus).[]

  • Lissencephaly

MRI showed diffuse pachygyria, moderate thickening of the cortex, enlarged ventricles, agenesis of the corpus callosum and septum pellucidum.[] Lissencephaly is usually diagnosed on the basis of either CT or MRI scan of the brain. It can be suspected based on the sonologic findings.[] MRI disclosed cerebral agyria, hypoplastic cerebral mantle and posterior agenesis of the corpus callosum. The propositus, a boy, died soon after birth at term.[]

  • Central Nervous System Cyst

Prevalence: Agenesis of the corpus callosum is found in about 5 per 1,000 births.[] Goodyear PW, Bannister CM, Russell S et al (2001) Outcome in prenatally diagnosed fetal agenesis of the corpus callosum.[] Arachnoid cysts can also occur secondary to other disorders such as Marfan’s syndrome, arachnoiditis, or agenesis of the corpus callosum.[]

  • Acrocallosal Syndrome

The diagnosis of acrocallosal syndrome was arrived at after neuroimaging showed agenesis of corpus callosum with interhemispheric cysts.[] Brain scans include: Prenatal ultrasound Prenatal magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) Computerized tomography (CT scan) MRI (provides the most detailed information) What other[] Acrocallosal syndrome (ACS) is an autosomal recessive condition, characterized by agenesis of the corpus callosum, pre- and postaxial polydactyly, minor craniofacial anomalies[]

  • Craniosynostosis-Dandy-Walker Malformation-Hydrocephalus Syndrome

Agenesis of the Corpus Callosum.[] The main diagnostic tools include: Amniocentesis - performed at around the 5th month of pregnancy Ultrasound scans - to check for any abnormal fluid levels in the brain, while[] CT scan of the head : excellent method of imaging the brain in case of associated bone abnormalities. Preferred when MRI is contraindicated.[]

  • Encephalocele

Agenesis or hypogenesis of the corpus callosum is a commonly associated finding.[] Postnatal MRI scans are essential to diagnose associated brain abnormalities and to discover how much of the brain is protruding into an encephalocele.[] Associated brain abnormalities can include agenesis of the corpus callosum, hydrocephalus, and holoprosencephaly.[]

  • Growth Hormone Deficiency

Congenital Genetic (see “Genetics”) Structural brain defects Agenesis of corpus callosum Septo-optic dysplasia Empty sella syndrome Encephalocele Hydrocephalus Arachnoid cyst[] An MRI scan may reveal a structural abnormality or tumor in the brain. A pulmonary function test may reveal dimished lung respiratory muscle capacity.[] Structural defects include agenesis of the corpus callosum, septo-optic dysplasia, empty sella syndrome, encephalocele, hydrocephalus, and arachnoid cyst.[]
