340 Possible Causes for Akinesia, Bradykinesia, Motor Symptoms

  • Parkinson's Disease

Acute akinesia (AA) is an unusual motor complication in Parkinson's disease (PD).[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] Olfactory deficit is considered the most common NMS in PD preceding the motor symptoms for years.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] Table 1 Parkinson’s disease symptoms Bradykinesia Bradykinesia refers to slowness of movement and is the most characteristic clinical feature of PD, although it may also be[web.archive.org]

  • Parkinson's Disease Type 3

Moreover clinical features are variable with some patients presenting with akinesia and rigidity only and others with a tremor dominant type.[pmj.bmj.com] The Parkinson’s community acknowledges that there are many important non-motor symptoms as well as motor symptoms.[parkinson.org] Parkinson's disease is a neurodegenerative disorder associated with muscle rigidity, tremor, and bradykinesia.[symptoma.com]

  • Parkinson-Dementia Syndrome

During the disease course, akinesia and rigidity were present in all cases and classic resting tremor was noted in 29 (table 1).[jnnp.bmj.com] Turning on the subthalamic nucleus electrodes improved motor symptoms but left cognitive performance almost unchanged.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] Postural instability and bradykinesia is noted on physical exam.[medbullets.com]

  • Bradykinesia

With the extensive use of criteria sets from the 1980s, bradykinesia replaced akinesia as the most commonly used term.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] Usually, neurologists regularly monitor motor symptoms and motor fluctuations using the MDS-UPDRS part III clinical scale.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] In PD, facial bradykinesia is primarily mediated by basal ganglia dysfunction whereas in PSP, facial bradykinesia is a consequence of a widespread degeneration involving the[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

  • Postencephalitic Parkinson Disease

In uncontrolled studies, two-thirds of patients who received amantadine monotherapy experienced improvements in akinesia, rigidity, and tremor.[enotes.tripod.com] […] disease, but they also experience non-motor symptoms (NMS) that are often present before diagnosis or that inevitably emerge with disease progression.[books.google.de] […] through indirect action or inaction, such as no longer taking life-prolonging medications Parkinsonian syndromes: disorders related to PD in that they are characterized by bradykinesia[books.google.de]

  • Classic Progressive Supranuclear Palsy Syndrome

PSP-Pure akinesia with gait freezing (PSP-PAGF) is characterized by progressive freezing of gait, speech and writing early in the course of the disease.[orpha.net] PSP-CBS is characterized by progressive asymmetric dyspraxia, limb rigidity, bradykinesia, and progressive postural instability.[orpha.net] Motor symptoms come first and always precede cognitive changes. The progression of the disease is slow between 5 to 10 years.[alzheimer-europe.org]

  • Progressive Supranuclear Palsy

METHODS: We retrospectively enrolled 48 patients with PSP composed of 25 patients with PSP-Richardson's syndrome (RS) and 23 patients with pure akinesia with gait freezing[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] All these non-motor symptoms in PSP mimicked those of multiple system atrophy.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] UPDRS total motor scores and subscores for bradykinesia and axial motor deficits did not correlate with R2* values of the five brain regions.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

  • Juvenile Paralysis Agitans of Hunt

Associated, reflex, and voluntary movements are absent (akinesia). Muscle tone is plastic, and the extremity can move only passively.[encyclopedia2.thefreedictionary.com] Several therapies are available to delay the onset of motor symptoms and to ameliorate motor symptoms.[medicinenet.com] 32 HP:0002067 9 parkinsonism 32 HP:0001300 Symptoms via clinical synopsis from OMIM: 57 Neuro: dysarthria gait disturbance tremor rigidity bradykinesia more Misc: onset in[malacards.org]

  • Secondary Parkinsonism

Gait is abnormal with having small steps and maybe occasionally with freezing [1] [2] Freezing or periods of akinesia [1] [2] This is one of the disabling symptoms and commonly[explainmedicine.com] BACKGROUND: Non-Motor Symptoms (NMS) are frequent in patients with Idiopathic Parkinson's Disease (IPD).[clinicaltrials.gov] Gradually, bradykinesia diminished slightly and vigilance increased little.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

  • Huntington's Disease

All patients develop hypokinesia and rigidity leading to bradykinesia and severe akinesia. All psychomotor processes become severely impaired.[orpha.net] In addition, multiple regressions were performed to investigate the impact of family history on the age at onset of depression and motor symptoms.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] However, GPi-DBS-induced bradykinesia may emerge as one main limitation of GPi-DBS in HD.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
