64 Possible Causes for Alkaline Phosphatase Increased, Hepatomegaly, Increased Echogenicity

  • Liver Cirrhosis

Cardinal symptoms include fasting hypoglycemia, lactic acidosis and hepatomegaly as well as neutropenia.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] Findings that suggest the presence of cirrhosis include: Small, contracted liver Surface nodularity, increased echogenicity of liver Splenomegaly Ascites Collateral veins[hiv.va.gov] phosphatase (ALP).[qi.quintessenz.de]

  • Portal Cirrhosis

The presence of this triad in a patient with unexplained hepatomegaly is indicative of portal cirrhosis.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] Parenchymal changes seen in patients with diffuse liver disease and cirrhosis include surface nodularity, increased echogenicity, coarsened echotexture, and a high caudate-to-right[e-ultrasonography.org] The liver becomes large, even huge (hepatomegaly). The normal liver weighs about 1,200 grams (2.6 lb).[en.wikipedia.org]

  • Fatty Liver

Ultrasound findings are those of hepatic steatosis, with increased echogenicity and coarsened echotexture of the liver (see also: grading of diffuse hepatic steatosis ) if[radiopaedia.org] Furthermore, these cases of hepatomegaly and fatty liver have been also in the context of concomitant extrahepatic side effects.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] Blood levels of alkaline phosphatase may become elevated in NAFLD. Sometimes ferritin level is elevated as well.[docsopinion.com]

  • Acute Fatty Liver of Pregnancy

USG abdomen revealed hepatomegaly with fatty changes grade 2-3, medical renal disease, and minimal ascites.[najms.org] The ultrasound findings were normal in 12 patients, an increasingly coarsened echo-pattern and increased echogenicity of the liver in 10 patients, and mild to moderate fatty[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] The serum concentrations of transaminase enzymes, bilirubin, and alkaline phosphatase were increased, and a mild coagulopathy was present.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

  • Hepatic Sarcoidosis

Clinical presentation was with weight loss, hepatomegaly and abnormal liver function tests.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] […] homogeneous or heterogeneous echogenicity nodules are usually hypoechoic relative to the background liver 1 CT and MRI : in most patients the liver appears homogeneous 10[radiopaedia.org] His ESR (9mm) and Alkaline Phosphatase (104 IU) - though not his yGT - declined rapidly to normal.[jpma.org.pk]

  • Liver Disease

CASE REPORT In 1979, CESD was first diagnosed in a 13-year-old female with marked hepatomegaly.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] Abdominal ultrasound 5 weeks after SIRT revealed a slightly increased echogenicity of the liver.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] […] bilirubin (without increase in alkaline phosphatase) (See web-based course on liver function test abnormalities .)[hiv.va.gov]

  • Liver Abscess

CASE PRESENTATION: We report a case of a 63-year-old male with a history of anorexia for 3 weeks, fever for 4 days and examination findings of tender hepatomegaly with a liver[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] An abdominal CT scan ( Fig. 1 ) revealed an increase in the size of the left lobe of the liver with a heterogeneous alteration of its echogenicity, but no clear image of mass[scielo.br] Liver function tests showed a grade 1 increase in bilirubin and transaminases and a grade 2 increase in alkaline phosphatases and gammaglutamyltransferase.[aspergillus.org.uk]

  • Angiomyolipoma

Examination revealed hepatomegaly with tenderness in the right upper quadrant.[jmedicalcasereports.com] Echocardiography revealed right cardiac chambers with increased dimensions related to a large echogenic tumor with an inferior component within the inferior vena cava ( Figure[circ.ahajournals.org] Pregnancy increases the risk of rupture.[urology-textbook.com]

  • Primary Biliary Cirrhosis

[…] bile ducts affected only irregularly ( Hum Pathol 2002;33:983 ) 85% women, usually ages 40 - 60 Symptoms: insidious onset of pruritis, malaise, dark urine, light stools, hepatomegaly[pathologyoutlines.com] A bedside ultrasound of the right upper quadrant showed a liver measuring 15 cm with increased echogenicity, suggesting the presence of fatty infiltration but revealing no[consultant360.com] We had also observed in the other three groups of patients that the average of the values of γ-glutamyl transpeptidase and alkaline phosphatase increases with the increase[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

  • Secondary Amyloidosis

Hepatomegaly, splenomegaly, and autonomic neuropathy frequently occur as the disease progresses; cardiomyopathy occurs rarely.[bu.edu] Ultrasound examination revealed enlarged kidneys with increased echogenicity in all patients. All patients had a medical history of chronic or repeated infections.[doi.org] The median SAA concentration in these patients was 51 mg per liter, a finding that is consistent with increased production of alkaline phosphatase as an acute-phase reactant[doi.org]
