13 Possible Causes for Alkalosis, CT Scan showing Adrenal Mass, Ventricular Fibrillation

  • Hypokalemia

To report a case of ventricular fibrillation caused by severe hypokalemia probably associated with sertraline use.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] Adrenal imaging with computerized tomography (CT) scan showed a low-density mass measuring 2.1 cm in diameter in the left adrenal (Figure 2 ).[bmcresnotes.biomedcentral.com] Patients can also present with convulsions due to severe metabolic alkalosis or hypomagnesemia. Therefore, early recognition and treatment are important.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

  • Pheochromocytoma

Cardiac arrhythmias, such as atrial and ventricular fibrillation, may occur because of excessive plasma catecholamine levels.[emedicine.com] If imaging with MRI or CT scans of the adrenal glands shows a mass in the gland (or outside it), surgery may be done.[web.archive.org] CT scan showed previously undiagnosed large right adrenal mass (5.9cm). The diagnosis of pheochromocytoma was confirmed after adrenalectomy.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

  • Electrolyte Imbalance

Here, a young woman with prior episodes of auditory stimulus-induced syncope presented with LQTS and ventricular fibrillation (VF) with hypomagnesaemia and hypocalcaemia after[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] Answers QUESTION 1 The CT scan (figure 2 ) shows a large mass (arrow) arising from the region of the right adrenal gland.[pmj.bmj.com] […] with a previously unrecognized syndrome characterized by seizures, sensorineural deafness, ataxia, mental retardation, and electrolyte imbalance (hypokalemia, metabolic alkalosis[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

  • Hyperaldosteronism

Symptoms: High blood pressure Headache Muscle weakness Fatigue Intermittent paralysis Numbness Signs and tests: Low serum potassium level Abdominal CT scan that shows adrenal[uclahealth.org] During the emergency workup she developed syncope and three episodes of ventricular fibrillation.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] Why then does hyperaldosteronism cause alkalosis?[forums.studentdoctor.net]

  • Hypercalcemia

: ventricular fibrillation ) and muscle/smooth muscle weakness.[vetstream.com] The thoracic-abdominal CT scan showed a retroesophageal mass measuring 5.6 3.2 6.8 cm, which was suspicious for parathyroid tumour, in addition to bilateral hypodense adrenal[revistanefrologia.com] Milk-alkali syndrome (hypercalcemia, alkalosis, and renal insufficiency) results from chronic excessive ingestion of calcium and absorbable alkali.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

  • Periodic Paralysis

Missing the diagnosis can result in possible fatal complications such as hypercapneic respiratory failure and ventricular fibrillation.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] A computed tomography (CT) scan of the abdomen showed a nodular mass on the left adrenal gland, although laboratory examination revealed the patient had not developed primary[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] […] syndrome (GS), also referred to as familial hypokalaemia-hypomagnesaemia syndrome, is an autosomal recessive renal tubular disorder characterised by hypokalaemic metabolic alkalosis[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

  • ACTH-Independent Cushing Syndrome

Random lab tests revealed a suppressed adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH) A CT scan with an adrenal protocol was performed ( see figure 1) that showed multiple low attenuation[healio.com] fibrillation Ventricular premature beats Ventricular tachycardia Vertebral column Vertebral fractures Vesicoureteral reflux Vestibular neuritis Virtual histology slide box[amboss.com] […] neoplasm, pheochromocytoma or ovarian tumor In children, tumors are usually pheochromocytoma, neuroblastoma, thymic or pancreatic endocrine neoplasm Associated with hypokalemic alkalosis[pathologyoutlines.com]

CT: 5cm mass tail & body of pancreas, no hepatic or adrenal lesions. Octreotide treatment started. Bowel frequency improved, hypokalaemia corrected.[enets.org] fibrillation resulting from electrolyte imbalance reveals vipoma in MEN1 syndrome Tiziana Cavalli,Francesco Giudici,Raffaella Santi,Gabriella Nesi,Maria Luisa Brandi,Francesco[ijem.in] Vasoactive Intestinal Peptide Producing Tumor Verner Morrison Syndrome Vipomas WDHA Syndromes Pancreatic Cholera Verner-Morrison Syndrome Watery Diarrhea with Hypokalemic Alkalosis[decs.bvs.br]

  • Hypertensive Heart Disease

CT scanning, MRI, and magnetic resonance angiography (MRA) of the abdomen and chest show the presence of adrenal masses, renal artery stenosis, or evidence of coarctation[emedicine.medscape.com] […] contraction and causing the contractions to become spasmodic and irregular ( ventricular fibrillation ).[benbest.com] […] adrenaline ( epinephrine)アドレナリン( エピネフリン) adverse effect副作用、有害効果、逆効果 aerobic metabolism好気性(的)代謝 afterload後負荷 air embolism空気塞栓[症] akinesia[s]壁運動消失、アカイネジア(シス) aldosteroneアルドステロン alkalosis[tokyo-med.ac.jp]
