21 Possible Causes for Amnesia, Prominent Sulci

  • Alcohol Dementia

The CT showed prominent sulci and gyri with deep white matter changes. There were no other abnormalities.[] These are the characteristics of anterograde amnesia . Research shows that anterograde amnesia results from a failure of memory formation and storage.[] In contrast, retrograde amnesia will aggravate disorientation in time, space and among other people.[]

  • Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus

NPH is suggested when ventricular dilation is out of proportion to the prominence of the sulci, but this is a subjective call.[]

  • Pick Disease of The Brain

Characteristic features include prominent cerebral sulci (i.e. cortical atrophy) and v entriculomegaly (i.e. central atrophy) without bulging of the third ventricular recesses[] An amnesia score (Berliner Amnesietest-Kurzform) and the d2 test were highly pathological.[]

  • Neurosyphilis

Holland et al reported the CT scan findings in 3 patients with meningovascular syphilis. [2] Less prominence of the cortical sulci in our first case suggested cortical atrophy[] Diagnosis of neurosyphilis should be suspected in the presence of a global cognitive impairment consisting in disorientation, amnesia and severe impairment of speech and judgement[] Also, there was a marked diffuse cortical atrophy, more accentuated fronto-temporo-insular, with the enlargement of the sulci, of the anterior interemispheric fissure and[]

  • Creutzfeldt Jakob Disease

Besides amnesia and impaired attention (89% each), frontal lobe syndrome (75%), aphasia (63%), and apraxia (57%) were the most common neuropsychological deficits.[] B, Corresponding FLAIR image shows marked prominence of ventricles and sulci for the patient’s age.[] In its extreme forms, memory loss is called amnesia. Treatment for traumatic brain injuries commonly includes medications, counseling, and/or occupational therapy.[]

  • West Nile Encephalitis

Arrows indicate subtle enhancement in the sulci. B and C, FLAIR images show increased signal intensity in the sulci, more prominent on the left than on the right.[]

  • Semantic Dementia

Memory deficit; presents early in the dz course Imaging with CT or MRI shows diffuse cortical atrophy with prominent sulci and compensatory ventricular dilation; parietal[] […] neuropsychological evaluation, and clinical and functional brain imaging), symptomatologies (delirium, aphasia, aggression and impulse control disorders, and memory dysfunctions and amnesia[] Deficient recognition memory in organic amnesia. Cortex 10, 289 – 91. Google Scholar Warrington, E. K. Taylor, A. M. ( 1973 ).[]

  • Glioblastoma Multiforme

    (a) On an axial nonenhanced CT scan, the sulci in the right hemisphere are normally prominent; on the left, the parietal sulci are effaced within a wedge-shaped region of[] […] coordination, gait changes, ataxia o Positive Babinski reflex o Clonus (ankle or wrist) o Vertigo, head tilt [3] Associated Co-morbidities Some associated co-morbidities include: Amnesia[]

  • Primary Hypertrophic Osteoarthropathy

[…] the sulci and gyri of brain.[] […] hepatitis E, asthma-COPD overlap syndrome, drug-induced parenchymal lung disease, binge eating disorder, hereditary breast and ovarian cancer syndrome, transient global amnesia[] Sometimes, the scalp takes on an undulating appearance and shows prominent grooves, the appearance being referred to as cutis verticis gyrata because of its resemblance to[]

  • Marchiafava Bignami Disease

Findings CT shows mild prominence of the ventricles and sulci consistent with mild generalized cerebral volume loss.[] Key terms Amnesia — Inability to remember events or experiences. Memory loss.[] The episode lasting for 1-2 hours, f/b amnesia of events.[]
