246 Possible Causes for Anasarca, Hypoalbuminemia

  • Nephrotic Syndrome

If during nivolumab treatment renal insufficiency, hypoalbuminemia, or proteinuria develops, further analysis for a possible nephrotic syndrome is warranted for early detection[] This resulted in a relapse of generalized anasarca, associated with massive proteinuria and hypoalbuminemia.[] Severe hypoalbuminemia, heavy proteinuria, hyponatremia, and hypercholesterolemia were features of the nephrotic syndrome.[]

  • Lipoid Nephrosis

A satisfactory response characterized by correction of hypoalbuminemia, clearance of proteinuria, and an increase of endogenous creatinine clearance occurred with corticosteroid[] The fluid shift progresses and eventually causes abdominal swelling from ascites, respiratory difficulty from pleural effusion, and generalized edema. anasarca (severe generalized[] Nephrotic range proteinuria without severe hypoalbuminemia was detected during the 25-day course of oliguric renal failure. Renal vein thrombosis was excluded.[]

  • Hookworm Infection

Iron-deficiency anemia occurs and hypoalbuminemia develops when blood loss exceeds the intake and reserves of host iron and protein.[] Patients might also present with peripheral edema or even anasarca, due to hypoproteinemia. Infected children exhibit growth retardation.[] It is suggested that the associated hypoalbuminemia is the cause of the enteropathy.[]

  • Protein Losing Enteropathy

Hypoalbuminemia commonly observed in cirrhosis is considered to be mainly related to hepatocellular dysfunction.[] We report the case of an 18-year-old woman that presented initially with diarrhoea and anasarca.[] A 37-year-old man, residing in Sacheon-si, Gyeongsangnam-do, admitted to the Gyeongsang National University Hospital (GNUH) due to long-lasting diarrhea, abdominal pain, anasarca[]

  • Renal Amyloidosis

The laboratory work-up showed nephrotic-range proteinuria and hypoalbuminemia and normal renal function despite bilateral shrunken kidneys revealed by the abdominal ultrasound[] RELATO DO CASO: Homem de 68 anos, branco, foi admitido no Serviço de Medicina Interna do hospital com quadro de anasarca e síndrome nefrótica.[] The patient was put on Colchicine and anticoagulants seeing the major hypoalbuminemia.[]

  • Cronkhite-Canada Syndrome

Here we report a 63-year-old male presenting with diffuse gastrointestinal polyposis, onychodystrophy, cutaneous pigmentation, alopecia, diarrhea, hypoalbuminemia and lower[] • Change in taste sensation • Cheilosis papillary atrophy of the tongue • Chronic or recurrent watery diarrhea, sometimes melena • Edema (mild and peripheral to massive anasarca[] Blood tests revealed severe hypoalbuminemia. Colonoscopy (CS) showed numerous, dense, red polyps throughout the colon and rectum.[]

  • Malnutrition

The patient presented a temporary clinical improvement, however, outpatient monitoring identified the need for subsequent hospitalizations due to the recurrence of severe hypoalbuminemia[] The laboratory evaluation was significant for anemia, hypoalbuminemia, and hypoproteinemia.[] ] : Decreased subcutaneous tissue: Areas that are most affected are the legs, arms, buttocks, and face Edema: Areas that are most affected are the distal extremities and anasarca[]

  • Focal Segmental Glomerulosclerosis

Nephrotic syndrome (NS) is one of the most common glomerular diseases with signs of nephrosis, heavy proteinuria, hypoalbuminemia, and edema.[] Here we report the case of a 54-year-old Asian man who presented with recurrent episodes of anasarca for approximately 25 years.[] Gradually, he suffered from albuminuria, hypoalbuminemia, edema, and hyperlipidemia in 2014.[]

  • Kwashiorkor

The child presented at 10 months of age with decreased weight for height, rash, hepatomegaly, edema, hypoproteinemia, hypoalbuminemia, anemia, hypoglycemia, and evidence of[] Anasarca and bowel wall edema were seen on an abdominal computed tomographic scan, and an upper endoscopy revealed a stomal ulcer and a stricture at the site of the gastrojejunal[] A 14-month-old girl and a 7-month-old boy each presented with a diffuse dermatitis, whole body edema, and hypoalbuminemia.[]

  • Adult-Onset Still Disease

AOSD patients with RHS showed higher frequencies of leukopenia, anemia, thrombocytopenia, hypoalbuminemia, hypofibrinogenemia, hypertriglyceridemia, hyperferritinemia, and[] Anasarca developed with massive pleural effusion, ascites, and systemic edema, resulting in an increase of 47 kg in body weight.[] Laboratory tests support the inflammatory nature of the disorder with leukocytosis, anemia of chronic disease, hypoalbuminemia, and hyperferritinemia.[]
