2,334 Possible Causes for Anemia, Fever, Leukopenia

  • Influenza

Hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS) is a disease characterized by thrombotic microangiopathy with a triad of non-immune hemolytic anemia, thrombocytopenia, and renal impairment[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] Each of these viruses is capable of causing nonspecific febrile illnesses, classic dengue fever and dengue haemorrhagic fever (Gubler 1998).[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] ., anemia, sickle cell anemia) neurologic and neurodevelopmental disorders that affect their ability to swallow and breathe morbid obesity (BMI of 40 or higher) residents[medbroadcast.com]

  • Infectious Mononucleosis

Leukopenia and thrombocytopenia are not uncommon.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] Infectious mononucleosis (IM) is a rare cause of aplastic anemia in adults.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] You don't usually get glandular fever more than once.[nhs.uk]

  • Typhus

Some of the common abnormalities noted include proteinuria, leukopenia, thrombocytopenia, higher levels of transaminase, and hypoalbuminemia.[symptoma.com] Physical and laboratory data showed cytopenia (thrombocytopenia and anemia), splenomegaly, hyperferritinemia, hypofibrinogenemia, and an elevated level of interleukin-2 receptor[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] The most common symptoms are fever, headaches, and sometimes rash.[cdc.gov]

  • Ehrlichiosis

I report a case of tick-borne ehrlichiosis in which the primary presentation suggested an infectious diarrhea, with impressive leukopenia and thrombocytopenia.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] 5-year-old boy who was referred to the Hematology-Oncology Clinic to consider a bone marrow etiologic process after his pediatrician discovered progressive neutropenia, anemia[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] She presented with a several-day history of myalgias, fever, and frontal headache.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

  • Malaria

Anemia, Leukopenia, and thrombocytopenia are commonly observed hematological abnormalities in malaria and typhoid patients.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] AL treatment of severe malaria can cause delayed hemolytic anemia.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] Fever was not reported with this patient.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

  • Paroxysmal Nocturnal Hemoglobinuria

CBC showed leukopenia (WBC 2.9 x 103 /µL) with neutropenia (segmented neutrophils 48%), macrocytic anemia (Hgb 6.1 g/dL, hematocrit 20%, MCV,113 fL) and thrombocytopenia ([ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] Anemia work-up revealed a misunderstood association of a hemolytic anemia with a negative direct antiglobulin test and iron deficiency.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] Thromboses, as observed in our case, may be associated with fever and marked inflammation.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

  • Malignant Histiocytosis

Two years later, he manifested persistent fever, leukopenia, effusions and hypoproteinemia, and his general condition worsened progressively.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] The clinical features included fever, anemia, and marked hepatosplenomegaly without lymphadenopathy.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] A 70-year-old woman was admitted for evaluation of hepatosplenomegaly, fever and elevated serum LDH levels.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

  • Aplastic Anemia

The regimen has a low incidence of bone marrow suppression, and the incidences of anemia, leukopenia, neutropenia and thrombocytopenia exceeding grade 3 are less than 5%.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] Aplastic anemia is a form of anemia due to failure in bone marrow production of leukocytes, erythrocytes and platelets, resulting in peripheral blood pancytopenia.[symptoma.com] Anti-malarial treatment was initiated following which the fever subsided but, despite regular transfusions, the blood counts remained low.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

  • Plasmodium Falciparum Malaria

Fever (100%), splenomegaly (86.7%), hepatomegaly (26.7%), leukopenia (13.3%), thrombocytopenia (80%), elevated liver function tests (40%), and increased serum creatinine levels[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] We analyze how the prevalence of anemia depends on that of Plasmodium falciparum malaria by developing models of the excess risk of anemia caused by malaria at a population[gov.uk] Thus, Q fever may be associated with malaria infection in travelers returning from disease-endemic countries.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

  • Myelodysplasia

Serum copper determination should be included in the work-up of patients with anemia and leukopenia of unclear etiology who have associated myeloneuropathy.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] Who has aplastic anemia and MDS?[niddk.nih.gov] An 18-month-old boy presented with fever, hepatosplenomegaly, jaundice, pancytopenia, hyperferritinemia, hypertriglyceridemia and evidence of hemophagocytosis and trilineage[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
