3,912 Possible Causes for Anemia, Fever, Thrombocytopenia

  • Aplastic Anemia

After the initial appearance of AMI approximately 2 months earlier, he had received conservative treatment/transfusion alone because of severe thrombocytopenia and anemia[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] Aplastic anemia is a form of anemia due to failure in bone marrow production of leukocytes, erythrocytes and platelets, resulting in peripheral blood pancytopenia.[symptoma.com] Anti-malarial treatment was initiated following which the fever subsided but, despite regular transfusions, the blood counts remained low.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

  • Leukemia

Anemia and thrombocytopenia are the major adverse prognostic variables. CLL has no standard staging system.[web.archive.org] fever on day 29.[bloodjournal.hematologylibrary.org] CASE PRESENTATION: We report a case of a 53 year old patient with T-LGL, Immune-Thrombocytopenia (ITP) and combined antibody deficiency, who presented with fever and reduced[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

  • Disseminated Intravascular Coagulation

Both initially received antibiotic treatment for suspected infection-associated thrombocytopenia.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] Both recipients experienced clinically significant hemolytic anemia, which typically occurs at a very low frequency.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] Abstract Objective Cases of Japanese spotted fever (JSF) are sometimes complicated by disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC) with an abnormal liver function, resulting[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

  • Myelodysplasia

Therapy with granulocyte-colony stimulating factor (G-CSF) and granulocyte-monocyte-colony stimulating factor (GM-CSF) caused splenomegaly and severe thrombocytopenia, which[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] Affected patients present with neonatal anemia, occasional dysmorphism, and cancer predisposition.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] An 18-month-old boy presented with fever, hepatosplenomegaly, jaundice, pancytopenia, hyperferritinemia, hypertriglyceridemia and evidence of hemophagocytosis and trilineage[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

  • Primary Myelofibrosis

Six weeks later, he developed grade 4 thrombocytopenia and grade 3 anemia.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] Most of them had anemia, fever, and hepatosplenomegaly on admission.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] Although ruxolitinib rapidly induced relief, he developed a high-grade fever. A comprehensive fever work-up found no apparent cause of the fever, except for PMF.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

  • Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia

Anemia and thrombocytopenia are the major adverse prognostic variables. CLL has no standard staging system.[web.archive.org] Approximately 5-10% of CLL is complicated by autoimmune cytopenia (AIC), such as autoimmune hemolytic anemia (AIHA).[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] The symptoms of this infection range from a silent infection to fever, enlargement of the liver and spleen, weight loss, and pancytopenia.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

  • Systemic Lupus Erythematosus

Blood platelet counts (BPCs) of 20   10/L represent severe thrombocytopenia, and a BPC of 21 to 50   10/L indicates moderate thrombocytopenia.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] Anemia is a common finding in children with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE).[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] The patient showed a high spiking fever and myalgia. Laboratory data revealed pancytopenia and immunological abnormalities.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

  • Paroxysmal Nocturnal Hemoglobinuria

This case raises caution for heparin-induced thrombocytopenia in paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] Anemia work-up revealed a misunderstood association of a hemolytic anemia with a negative direct antiglobulin test and iron deficiency.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] Thromboses, as observed in our case, may be associated with fever and marked inflammation.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

  • Thrombotic Thrombocytopenic Purpura

Unfortunately, there is no clear guidance for when thrombocytopenia is refractory for a prolonged period of time.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] Thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura (TTP) is a microangiopathic hemolytic anemia that requires emergent treatment with plasma exchange and is one of the most important conditions[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] It is well known for Chikungunya fever to present as myriad of skin rash along with usual joint pain and fever, but probably this is the first case report of Chikungunya fever[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

  • Acute Myelocytic Leukemia

The consolidation treatment was the same in both arms but caused significantly more leukopenia and thrombocytopenia in patients previously treated with HIDAC-3-7 induction[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] However, it is not clear whether this autoantibody in AML patients induces frank hemolysis (autoimmune hemolytic anemia, AIHA), as seen in lymphoid neoplasms.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] A patient with acute nonlymphocytic leukemia developed progressive lung infiltrates and unremitting fevers during a profound neutropenic state.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
