1,700 Possible Causes for Anemia, Leukocytosis, Thrombocytopenia

  • Influenza

Immune thrombocytopenia (ITP) is an isolated autoimmune condition, often preceded by a viral infection.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] Hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS) is a disease characterized by thrombotic microangiopathy with a triad of non-immune hemolytic anemia, thrombocytopenia, and renal impairment[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] We report herein the case of an unexpected platelet increase in a 46-year-old woman with idiopathic thrombocytopenia (ITP) treated with oseltamivir for influenza.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

  • Tuberculosis

Recurrent profound thrombocytopenia can happen after several doses of LZD rechallenging.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] It may also cause leukocytosis and anemia, however, the findings are nonspecific.[symptoma.com] Therefore, reuse of LZD should be avoided after recovery from severe thrombocytopenia due to LZD.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

  • Infectious Mononucleosis

A 49-year-old man with diabetic mellitus suffered from IM with fever, pharyngitis, parotiditis with lymphadenopathies, thrombocytopenia and splenomegaly.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] Infectious mononucleosis (IM) is a rare cause of aplastic anemia in adults.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] Leukocytosis is a common feature of infectious mononucleosis and absence of this should suggest an alternative diagnosis.[symptoma.com]

  • Disseminated Intravascular Coagulation

Both initially received antibiotic treatment for suspected infection-associated thrombocytopenia.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] By day 10, the patient’s coagulation profile, liver enzymes, and leukocytosis normalized, and renal function significantly improved.[innovationsincrm.com] Both recipients experienced clinically significant hemolytic anemia, which typically occurs at a very low frequency.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

  • Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia

There is no or little evidence of anemia or thrombocytopenia.[symptoma.com] We report two cases of biclonal CLL presented with leukocytosis, typical morphological features, and distinct immunophenotype of CLL.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] Approximately 5-10% of CLL is complicated by autoimmune cytopenia (AIC), such as autoimmune hemolytic anemia (AIHA).[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

  • Hairy Cell Leukemia

We are reporting a 4-year-old child who was received for investigation for persistent anemia, prolonged fever, and thrombocytopenia.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] The 3 HCL-v patients had leukocytosis and received chemotherapy with variable outcome.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] Here, we describe a patient with HCL who initially presented with pancytopenia and received a diagnosis of aplastic anemia.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

  • Primary Myelofibrosis

Six weeks later, he developed grade 4 thrombocytopenia and grade 3 anemia.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] Leukocytosis is occasionally seen in patients with presumptive but undiagnosed myeloproliferative disorders (MPD).[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] Most of them had anemia, fever, and hepatosplenomegaly on admission.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

  • Pneumonia

Severe fever with thrombocytopenia syndrome (SFTS) was first reported in China in 2011.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] […] elderly, the very young, and those with underlying health problems, such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), diabetes, congestive heart failure, sickle cell anemia[vdh.virginia.gov] Empyema is potentially more serious and presents as the persistence of fever and leukocytosis after 4-5 days of appropriate antibiotic therapy.[patient.info]

  • Leukemia

Patients with the BRAF V600E mutation had a significantly higher frequency of neutropenia, thrombocytopenia, and elevated soluble interleukin-2 receptor and common B-cell[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] Evaluation Step 0: Leukocytosis ( White Blood Cell Count 11,000/mm3) Confirmed with a second Complete Blood Count with differential No other obvious cause for Leukocytosis[fpnotebook.com] The patient does not have an enlarged liver or spleen, anemia, or low levels of platelets.[cancer.net]

  • Thrombotic Thrombocytopenic Purpura

Unfortunately, there is no clear guidance for when thrombocytopenia is refractory for a prolonged period of time.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] There was mild leukocytosis with a WBC of 12,700/uL.[jitc.biomedcentral.com] Thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura (TTP) is a microangiopathic hemolytic anemia that requires emergent treatment with plasma exchange and is one of the most important conditions[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
