17 Possible Causes for Apical Aneurysm - Right Ventricle, Atrial Arrhythmia, Atrial Flutter

  • Atrial Septal Defect

In adults, common symptoms include shortness of breath, exhaustion, palpitations, atrial arrhythmia, syncope and stroke.[] Apical four-chamber view in transthoracic echocardiography, showing the right atrial appendage aneurysm (A). Right atrium (B) and right ventricle (C) size were normal.[] Electrocardiogram showed atrial flutter with a heart rate of approximately 150 beats/minute.[]

  • Cardiac Arrhythmia

Atrial fibrillation and atrial flutter are common cardiac arrhythmias, which lead to an irregular and sometimes rapid heart rate.[] In this condition, a reentrant circuit is formed around the characteristic fibro-fatty tissue that has replaced the right ventricle.[] The development of atrial flutter during the procedure had been found to change the shunt from unidirectional to bidirectional and the procedure was then forced to a temporary[]

  • Ebstein Malformation

Right-sided maze procedure for right atrial arrhythmias in congenital heart disease. Ann Thorac Surg 1998 ; 65 : 149 – 154.[] Anomalies of the apical portion of the right ventricle can be seen in Figures 13 and 14. Multiple bands of myocardium join the right ventricular free wall to the septum.[] , as well as ectopic atrial tachycardia, atrial flutter, and atrial fibrillation, can occur. 46,50 Atrial fibrillation and atrial flutter are most likely caused by secondary[]

  • Cardiomyopathy

Atrial and ventricular arrhythmias must also be treated.[] ICD implantable cardioverter defibrillator; LA left atrium; LV left ventricle; RV right ventricle; SD sudden death; VT ventricular tachycardia.[] Patients can have a myriad of arrhythmias, including atrial fibrillation, atrial flutter, ventricular ectopy, ventricular tachycardia, and ventricular fibrillation.[]

  • Atrial Septal Aneurysm

Both anatomical heart structures can lead to atrial arrhythmias.[] The apical four chamber view with colour flow Doppler showing the giant interatrial septal aneurysm.[] The occurrence of atrial fibrillation or flutter and the presence of concomitant diseases and other clinical features were also estimated.[]

  • Arrhythmogenic Right Ventricular Dysplasia

Atrial fibrillation was the most common atrial arrhythmia, occurring in 80% of ARVD/C patients with atrial arrhythmias.[] B: right ventriculography discloses dilation of the right ventricle (RV) and "stack of coins" image. C: magnetic resonance image showing apical aneurysm (arrow).[] The primary outcome was occurrence of AA (atrial fibrillation or atrial flutter) during follow-up, recorded by 12-lead ECG, Holter monitoring or implantable cardioverter defibrillator[]

  • Giant Left Atrium

., Oto, A. and Koroglu, B.K. (2005) Left Atrial, Pulmonary Vein and Dural Calcification in a Patient with Arrhythmia and Chronic Renal Failure.[] […] was 200ml, with a giant apical aneurysm, a very low EF (10%) and a medium quantity of pericardial fluid, along with right atria collapse. ( Fig. 2 ) At this point a suspicion[] There was no associated congenital heart disease and 24-hour holter ECG did not record any arrhythmias.[]

  • Endomyocardial Fibrosis

Abnormal heartbeat patterns (atrial fibrillation or atrial arrhythmia) are common.[] Cardiac magnetic resonance images revealed a thin-walled, apical aneurysm of right ventricle with multiple septations and marked obliteration of left ventricular apex.[] Archivos del Instituto de Cardiología de México. (2000) [ Pubmed ] Atrial flutter in fetuses and early childhood: a report of eight cases.[]

  • Right-Sided Heart Failure

Various approaches were applied to prevent right heart failure: perioperative control of atrial and ventricle arrhythmia, protection of myocardium, reduction of right-side[] AN, aneurysm; LA, left atrium; LV, left ventricle; RA, right atrium; RV, right ventricle. ( Panel B ) Colour Doppler of aortic root (parasternal long-axis view) demonstrated[] Atrial flutter followed by sick sinus syndrome as presenting symptoms of B-cell malignant non-Hodgkin lymphoma involving the heart.[]

  • Apical Myocardial Infarction

Likewise, any infarct can lead to impaired LV filling, leading to acute atrial enlargement, leading to atrial arrhythmias including atrial fibrillation.[] […] was 200ml, with a giant apical aneurysm, a very low EF (10%) and a medium quantity of pericardial fluid, along with right atria collapse. ( Fig. 2 ) At this point a suspicion[] Arrhythmias with atrial origin include: Premature Atrial Contractions (PACs), Wandering Atrial Pacemaker, Atrial flutter, and Atrial fibrillation (Afib).[]
