18 Possible Causes for Ascites, Pancytopenia, Polyclonal Hyperglobulinemia

  • Multicentric Castleman's Disease

We herein describe an unusual case of multicentric Castleman's disease accompanied by thrombocytopenia, ascites, renal failure and myelofibrosis in a Japanese woman.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] Diffuse lymph-node enlargement, splenomegaly and pancytopenia were detected. Induction with Rituximab was made because pancytopenia was present.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] hyperglobulinemia, elevated transaminases and renal disease. 2 , 5 , 7 Dispenzieri et al. 8 analyzed the clinical spectrum of Castleman’s disease in 113 patients.[pagepress.org]

  • Primary Myelofibrosis

Polyclonal hyperglobulinemia may be present. Patients with sporadic idiopathic or familial pulmonary hypertension have significant marrow fibrosis.[patient-help.com] This is then followed by pancytopenia (a reduction in the number of red and white blood cells, as well as platelets).[aoporphan.com] Here we report a rare case of PMF with anemia, small bowel obstruction and ascites due to extramedullary hematopoiesis and portal hypertension.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

  • Castleman Disease

Three cases developed non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, two of the three had larger spleens, and these cases had effusions/ascites.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] There is often significant anemia which may be hemolytic, often reflecting pancytopenia or hemophagocytic syndrome (Stebbing 2009).[hivbook.com] The disease is characterized by fever, weight loss, anemia, polyclonal hyperglobulinemia, splenomegaly, thrombocytosis and peripheral lymphadenopathy.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

  • Chronic Active Hepatitis

A 65-year-old-woman presented with edema, ascites, proteinuria and abnormal liver function tests. A small amount of mixed cryoglobulin was detected in her serum.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] Abstract A 28-year-old man was admitted to our department with intermittent fever, hepatosplenomegaly and pancytopenia.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] hyperglobulinemia.[hepatitiscentral.com]
