1,523 Possible Causes for Ascites, Splenomegaly

  • Malignant Neoplasm

We describe a case of acute chlamydial salpingitis with marked ascites and an adnexal mass that simulated a malignant neoplasm.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] Chlamydial infection may cause marked ascites and a palpable adenexal mass and should be considered whenever marked chronic inflammation with a lymphofollicular hyperplasia[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

  • Portal Hypertension

The serum-ascites albumin gradient value of 1.9 g/dL and the total protein level in the ascites of 3.1 g/dL indicated the ascites to have been caused by portal hypertension[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] We performed LS in 83 patients with massive splenomegaly ( 30 cm) secondary to portal hypertension and liver cirrhosis.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] Laparoscopic splenectomy (LS) is relatively contraindicated in cirrhotic portal hypertension (CPH) patients with complicating hypersplenic splenomegaly (HS).[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

  • Portal Vein Thrombosis

Peritoneal tuberculosis can present with unusual manifestations such as portal vein thrombosis and transudative ascites causing a diagnostic dilemma.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] She had splenomegaly and thrombocytopenia. Investigations did not reveal any prothrombotic disorder.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] Computed tomography revealed splenomegaly, a mesenteric mass measuring 3.5 cm and intra-abdominal lymphadenopathies at the hepatic hilum.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

  • Primary Myelofibrosis

Here we report a rare case of PMF with anemia, small bowel obstruction and ascites due to extramedullary hematopoiesis and portal hypertension.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] We report a patient with very advanced myelofibrosis and huge splenomegaly who showed a complete hematological response to low dose thalidomide with reversal of splenomegaly[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] Severe acute liver dysfunction occurred following transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt (TIPS) creation in a patient with massive ascites due to portal hypertension[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

  • Paroxysmal Nocturnal Hemoglobinuria

PNH is associated with abdominal vein thrombosis, which can cause splenomegaly and hypersplenism.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] A PVS is a treatment option for ascites due to BCS.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] We describe a patient under treatment with the anti-complement antibody eculizumab who developed pancytopenia, requiring blood transfusions, due to massive splenomegaly.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

  • Aggressive Systemic Mastocytosis

A 43 year-old woman presented with fever, abdominal pain, epato-splenomegaly, ascites, cholestasis, anemia, thrombocytopenia and previous diagnosis of sclerosing cholangitis[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] The patient was a 37-week-old male, born by caesarean section owing to hepatosplenomegaly and ascites diagnosed in utero, who exhibited extensive cutaneous and systemic manifestations[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] Retro-orbital injections of P815 NT cells in syngeneic DBA/2 mice resulted in rapid development of aggressive SM within 13-16 days characterized by splenomegaly, extramedullary[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

  • Liver Cirrhosis

The serum-ascites albumin gradient value of 1.9 g/dL and the total protein level in the ascites of 3.1 g/dL indicated the ascites to have been caused by portal hypertension[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] We performed LS in 83 patients with massive splenomegaly ( 30 cm) secondary to portal hypertension and liver cirrhosis.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] Esophageal varices and splenomegaly regressed after 3 and 8 years of sustained virologic responses in cases 1 and 2, respectively.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

  • Alcoholic Hepatitis

ICD-10-CM Codes › K00-K95 Diseases of the digestive system › K70-K77 Diseases of liver › K70- Alcoholic liver disease › Alcoholic hepatitis without ascites 2016 2017 2018[icd10data.com] Image studies showed an extremely enlarged fatty liver and splenomegaly.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] Splenomegaly is uncommon. Ascites and hepatic encepalopathy are common in severe disease but varices are not common.[euroliver.org]

  • T-Cell Lymphoma

Splenomegaly and adenopathy in mesentery, retro peritoneum and lymph node chains in the limbs were observed.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] One week after her first visit, hypoxemia, ascites, and Coomb test-positive autoimmune hemolytic anemia had newly appeared in addition to worsened fever, hepatosplenomegaly[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] A man in his 30s presented to our hospital with fever, hypereosinophilia, widespread lymphadenopathy, and splenomegaly.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

  • Hodgkin's Disease

We report a case of an 18-year-old man, who presented with fever and was found to have pallor, generalised lymphadenopathy, hepatosplenomegaly, ascites and pedal oedema.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] The presenting feature common in all cases was superficial lymphadenopathy followed by hepatomegaly in 17 (20%) cases and splenomegaly in 16 (19%).[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] […] klinična slika bolezni popolnoma v ozadju, na prvih ospredju vozlišč, ki jih lokalne zastoje (dvostranskih, predvsem pravih plevralni izcedkov, hileznyy poprsnice izliv, ascites[medic-sl.cikavo.in.ua]
