75 Possible Causes for Bicytopenia, Hepatomegaly, Hepatosplenomegaly

  • Gaucher Disease

A physical examination revealed obvious hypoevolutism and hepatomegaly, and laboratory tests and imaging examinations showed severe pulmonary interstitial fibrosis, infection[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] We report here the case of a young woman with hepatosplenomegaly, leukopenia, and thrombocytopenia.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] After 4years of ERT, therapeutic goals for thrombocytopenia and splenomegaly had been achieved in 100% of patients; goals for anemia and hepatomegaly had been achieved in[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

  • Mantle Cell Lymphoma

Characteristics at diagnosis involved lymphadenopathy (82%), splenomegaly (44%), B-symptoms (39%), and hepatomegaly (10%).[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] Most patients present with advanced stage disease with lymphadenopathy, hepatosplenomegaly, and bone marrow involvement.[icd9data.com] Further investigation revealed bicytopenia with splenomegaly and elevated serum creatinine.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

  • Primary Myelofibrosis

The patient, a 62-year-old female, having had primary myelofibrosis for 13 years and a splenectomy 4 years before, was admitted because of high fever, hepatomegaly, thrombocythemia[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] The main clinical manifestations of PMF are anemia, bleeding, hepatosplenomegaly, fatigue, and fever.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] Patients with primary myelofibrosis may have pancytopenia or bicytopenia and in that respect mimic patients with oligoblastic leukemia (myelodysplasia [MDS]; see Chap. 88)[patient-help.com]

  • Familial Hemophagocytic Lymphohistiocytosis

Diagnosis is challenging because it mimics severe sepsis by demonstrating hepatomegaly, splenomegaly, persistent fever, central nervous system involvement, and cytopenias.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] Reported here is the case of a 12-year-old boy, from a poor family, with a 6-year history of visual loss and fever for 5 months, and transient hemiparesis with hepatosplenomegaly[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] Hemogram revealed bicytopenia and bone marrow aspirate showed hemophagocytosis.[link.springer.com]

  • Castleman Disease

Examination revealed pallor; generalized edema; axillary, cervical, and inguinal lymphadenopathy; hypertension; and hepatomegaly.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] For multicentric disease: multi-region CT bilateral hilar and mediastinal lymphadenopathy centrilobular nodules diffuse abdominal lymphadenopathy hepatosplenomegaly ascites[radiopaedia.org] […] lymphadenopathy (128/128), anaemia (79/91), elevated C-reactive protein (65/79), hypergammaglobulinaemia (63/82), hypoalbuminaemia (57/63), elevated interleukin 6 (57/63), hepatomegaly[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

  • Acute Leukemia

Hepatomegaly and/or splenomegaly resulting from leukemic infiltration are present in many patients at diagnosis but are often overlooked.[clinicaladvisor.com] Physical examination showed jaundice, hepatosplenomegaly, and peripheral facial nerve palsy in addition to dermal nodules.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] A 43-year-old female presented with leukocytosis and bicytopenia.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

  • Follicular Lymphoma

An abdominal ultrasound showed inferior vena cava suprahepatic veins dilation without hepatomegaly.[sponcologia.pt] Splenomegaly is present in approximately 50% of patients at presentation, and hepatosplenomegaly may occur.[emedicine.com] In addition, the presence of an autoimmune bicytopenia and a Klinefelter syndrome complicated the clinical context of the patient.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

  • Acute Myelocytic Leukemia

Multivariate analysis showed that grades 1 or 2 GVHD (P .008) and no hepatomegaly at diagnosis (P .014) were associated with improved relapse-free survival (RFS).[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] In all three patients, radionuclide imaging with technetium-99m sulfur colloid showed hepatosplenomegaly, decreased liver uptake, and increased splenic activity.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] In contrast to patients with RA and only dyserythropoiesis, patients with multilineage dysplasia have bicytopenia or pancytopenia, a higher incidence of cytogenetic abnormalities[bloodjournal.hematologylibrary.org]

  • Cytomegalovirus Infection

Radiologic examinations were carried out, and the computed tomography scan revealed a hepatomegaly and a chest X-ray showed evidence of a unilateral pleural effusion.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] […] should arouse suspicion of intrauterine CMV infection can be distinguished into CNS signs such as ventriculomegaly or microcephaly and extracerebral infection signs such as hepatosplenomegaly[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] Laboratory investigations showed bicytopenia from complete blood count. Chest radiography and high-resolution computed tomography of the chest revealed lung nodules.[symbiosisonlinepublishing.com]

  • Brucellosis

Physical examination of the patient revealed massive hepatomegaly.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] Abstract Brucellosis is a systemic zoonotic infectious disease that may cause fever, fatigue, sweating, arthritis, hepatosplenomegaly, cytopenia, and lymphadenopathy.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] In this paper, we present a case of brucellosis with acute hepatitis and bicytopenia without anaemia.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
