27 Possible Causes for Bicytopenia, Hepatosplenomegaly, Hyperuricemia

  • Acute Leukemia

Physical examination showed jaundice, hepatosplenomegaly, and peripheral facial nerve palsy in addition to dermal nodules.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] A 43-year-old female presented with leukocytosis and bicytopenia.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] In advanced cases, patients may even present with altered mental status and renal failure (due to hyperuricemia).[symptoma.com]

  • Primary Myelofibrosis

The main clinical manifestations of PMF are anemia, bleeding, hepatosplenomegaly, fatigue, and fever.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] Patients with primary myelofibrosis may have pancytopenia or bicytopenia and in that respect mimic patients with oligoblastic leukemia (myelodysplasia [MDS]; see Chap. 88)[patient-help.com] The mechanism of chronic hyperuricemia in our case might be rapid cell turnover due to ineffective erythropoiesis of PMF.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

  • Acute Myelocytic Leukemia

In all three patients, radionuclide imaging with technetium-99m sulfur colloid showed hepatosplenomegaly, decreased liver uptake, and increased splenic activity.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] In contrast to patients with RA and only dyserythropoiesis, patients with multilineage dysplasia have bicytopenia or pancytopenia, a higher incidence of cytogenetic abnormalities[bloodjournal.hematologylibrary.org] Hydration and allopurinol or rasburicase are used for treatment of hyperuricemia, hyperphosphatemia, hypocalcemia, and hyperkalemia (ie, tumor lysis syndrome ) caused by the[merckmanuals.com]

  • Autoimmune Hemolytic Anemia

A 7-month-old boy, presented with prolonged fever, erythematous rash, severe pallor and hepatosplenomegaly.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] Autoimmune bicytopenia in pulmonary tuberculosis. Report of a pediatric case. Respir Med CME 2008;1:281-3. 9. • Chronic Myeloid Leukemia

Due to presenting complaint of bleeding diathesis and absence of hepatosplenomegaly, the case was undiagnosed for CML until the patient reported to us.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] In contrast to patients with RA and only dyserythropoiesis, patients with multilineage dysplasia have bicytopenia or pancytopenia, a higher incidence of cytogenetic abnormalities[doi.org] Because of the increased turnover of myeloid cells, hyperuricemia may be present, and for this reason allopurinol is also indicated.[clinicaladvisor.com]

  • Heavy Chain Disease

A 36-year-old man was admitted to Saitama Medical School Hospital, because of a remittent fever which had continued for approximately 6 months, hepatosplenomegaly and lymphadenopathy[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] In addition, the presence of an autoimmune bicytopenia and a Klinefelter syndrome complicated the clinical context of the patient.[hrcak.srce.hr] Hyperuricemia frequently occurs in advanced stages. For diagnosing Mu-HCDs, exploration of the bone marrow is often necessary.[symptoma.com]

  • Acute Megakaryocytic Leukemia

The results indicated that the fever, hemorrhage, hepatosplenomegaly and lymphadenopathy in this case were the primary presentations accompanying by leukocytosis, anemia and[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] The patient’s medical history was consistent with intermittent low-grade fever associated with bicytopenia (neutropenia and thrombocytopenia) for the last 3 years.[dovepress.com] The twins presented at 2 months of age with fever and poor feeding and subsequently developed progressive hepatosplenomegaly.[journals.lww.com]

  • Castleman Disease

  • Myelodysplasia

An 18-month-old boy presented with fever, hepatosplenomegaly, jaundice, pancytopenia, hyperferritinemia, hypertriglyceridemia and evidence of hemophagocytosis and trilineage[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] 2017) Age – median is 65-70 Sex – M F Classification Classification of MDS, Subtypes Subtype Blood Bone Marrow MDS cytopenias with single lineage dysplasia Unicytopenia or bicytopenia[arupconsult.com] Increased production and breakdown of blood cells can lead to hyperuricemia and hypermetabolism.[clevelandclinicmeded.com]

  • Follicular Lymphoma

Hyperuricemia may be observed upon presentation or during therapy.[emedicine.com] In addition, the presence of an autoimmune bicytopenia and a Klinefelter syndrome complicated the clinical context of the patient.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] […] examination revealed significant axillary and inguinal adenopathy (node size, 1.0 cm), and radiological examination (computed tomography scan and ultrasonography) showed hepatosplenomegaly[nature.com]
