65 Possible Causes for Bitemporal Hemianopsia, Hypertension, Prolactin Increased

  • Acromegaly

Increased mortality has been related to cardiovascular events that could be linked to these hormones and patients suffer from high rates of diabetes and hypertension.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] In addition, bitemporal hemianopsia was observed on campimetry. After further examination, the patient was diagnosed with acromegaly.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] A 50-year-old female was admitted to our hospital with headache, mild acromegaly, and bitemporal hemianopsia.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

  • Empty Sella Syndrome

The combination of the empty sella syndrome (ESS) and benign intracranial hypertension (BIH) is illustrated by two case histories.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] A 48-year-old man with a prolactin-secreting macroadenoma treated with cabergoline presented with progressive bitemporal hemianopsia.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] […] to increase after thyrotrophin releasing hormone (TRH, 500 microgram), confirmed the diagnosis of panhypopituitarism.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

  • Launois Syndrome

The syndrome is often associated with features of metabolic syndrome such as diabetes mellitus, hyperuricemia, hyperlipidemia and hypertension and is associated with polyneuropathy[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] Symptoms related to the compressive effects of the tumor include headaches, visual disturbances such as bitemporal hemianopsia, and signs of hypopituitarism.[symptoma.com] The prevalence of atherogenic risk factors as hypertension (80%), type 2 diabetes (30%), OSAS (50%), smoking (30%) and alcohol abuse (80%) was high in the (obese) LBS group[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

  • Pituitary Adenoma

For management, maintaining at least a euvolemic volume status was used in 76.9%, induced hypertension was used in 61.5%, and nimodipine was administered in 46.2% of cases[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] Here, we report the case of a 67-year-old woman who presented with bitemporal hemianopsia and visual impairment accompanied by mildly elevated prolactin.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] Some women produce breast milk even though they are not breastfeeding ( galactorrhea ) because of a related increase in prolactin.[merck.com]

  • Craniopharyngioma

Common acute presentations are sudden visual loss and symptoms of intracranial hypertension.[bestpractice.bmj.com] Of the seventeen (63%) patients presenting with varying degrees of bitemporal hemianopsia, all had improvement in vision postoperatively.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] In this paper we report a case of mixed pituitary adenoma/craniopharyngioma observed in a 75-year-old woman presenting with diplopia and slight increase of serum prolactin[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

  • Subarachnoid Hemorrhage

Abstract In 58 patients with progressive neurological deterioration from angiographically confirmed cerebral vasospasm after spontaneous subarachnoid hemorrhage, arterial hypertension[dx.doi.org] It has been reported that acute stress increases prolactin levels 21.[scielo.br] Intravascular volume expansion and induced hypertension are effective in reversing ischemic deficits from vasospasm provided that treatment commences before cerebral infarction[dx.doi.org]

  • Prolactinoma

SETTING AND DESIGN: Hyperprolactinemia/prolactinoma was diagnosed in PA patients from two referral centers (Munich, Germany, and Turin, Italy) and in essential hypertensive[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] Clinically, the patient was found to have hypogonadism and bitemporal hemianopsia.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] Causes of high prolactin levels in the blood: Primary Hypothyroidism : this is due to increased TRH levels which is known to stimulate prolactin levels Renal failure : prolactin[houstonendocrine.com]
