26 Possible Causes for Bone Marrow with Granulocytes Maturation Arrest, Leukopenia, Loss of Hair

  • Pernicious Anemia

A deficiency of white blood cells ( leukopenia ) and platelets ( thrombocytopenia ) in the blood may occur.[] Alopecia areata occurred 9 years later. 2007 Wiley-Liss, Inc[] This impaired DNA synthesis also causes an abnormal decrease in white blood cells, called leukopenia, with odd-looking shapes in their nuclei.[]

  • Acute Radiation Sickness

Leukopenia caused by the hematopoietic syndrome too increases predisposition to infection.[] They include nausea and vomiting, bloody diarrhoea, bleeding into the skin, the effects of severe ANAEMIA , hair loss and sterility.[] Sometimes the loss of hair is permanent.[]

  • Typhus

Because these ticks often suck blood on the hairy scalp, localized alopecia in patients has been reported in some cases.[] Some of the common abnormalities noted include proteinuria, leukopenia, thrombocytopenia, higher levels of transaminase, and hypoalbuminemia.[] Ehrlichiosis and anaplasmosis should be suspected in febrile patients with leukopenia and thrombocytopenia and mild to moderately elevated levels of hepatic transaminases.[]

  • Agranulocytosis

Abstract Leukopenia is a considerably common complication of tocilizumab [TCZ] and rituximab [RTX] therapy. RTX-induced leukopenia typically exhibits delayed onset.[] Within 4 days of the initiation of AZA therapy, the patient developed a high fever, leucopenia, and cranial alopecia.[] Bone marrow aspiration, which is rarely performed, typically shows a normocellular marrow with late granulocytic maturation arrest.[]

  • Typhoid Fever

Typhoid fever (enteric fever) is a multisystemic bacterial disease caused by salmonella typhi. Common symptoms include fever, malaise, bradycardia, headache, abdominal pain, and constipation. As the clinical presentation of typhoid fever is variable, and since it is a potentially fatal condition, treatment is presumptively[…][]

  • Measles

CBC is unnecessary but, if obtained, may show leukopenia with a relative lymphocytosis.[] Mechanisms involved in the induction of hearing loss by different viruses vary greatly, ranging from direct damage to inner ear structures, including inner ear hair cells[] Symptoms of toxicity include liver damage, headaches, vomiting, skin desquamation, bone abnormalities, joint pain, and alopecia ( Smith 1976 ).[]

  • Folate-Deficiency Anemia

A blood smear will show macrocytes, hypersegmented polymorphs, leukopenia, and thrombocytopenia if the deficiency is severe enough.[] Other folic acid deficiency symptoms are: Loss of appetite Weight loss Gray hair Depression Diarrhea Poor growth Headache Irritability The primary cause of folic acid deficiency[] The disease also is characterized by leukopenia (a deficiency of white blood cells, or leukocytes ), by thrombocytopenia (a deficiency of platelets ), by ineffective blood[]

  • Vitamin B12 Deficiency

Alopecia areata is a condition characterized by localized hair loss, or spot baldness.[] He had a severe hypoproliferative megaloblastic anemia with hemolysis (hemoglobin 61g/L, mean corpuscular volume 99fL, reticulocytes 0.8%, haptoglobin undetectable), leukopenia[] Three (15 %) patients had leukopenia, 7 (35 %) had neutropenia, 2 (10 %) patients had thrombocytopenia. All of the mothers had vitamin B12 deficiency.[]

  • Chemotherapy

CIA is traditionally categorized as acute diffuse hair loss caused by dystrophic anagen effluvium; however, CIA presents with different clinical patterns of hair loss.[] The main outcomes were improvement in chemotherapy-induced grade 3/4 marrow suppression (leukopenia, neutropenia, anemia, and thrombocytopenia) or gastrointestinal toxicities[] We emphasize that hair loss secondary to chemotherapy is not as random or nonspecific in patterns or extent of disease, as one would initially perceive.[]

  • Congenital Neutropenia

Compare leukopenia.[] […] musculoskeletal pain, pain in extremity, splenomegaly, anemia, upper respiratory tract infection, urinary tract infection, epistaxis, chest pain, diarrhea, hypoesthesia, and alopecia[] Bone marrow biopsies showed granulocyte maturational arrest and electron microscopy showed almost a complete absence of granules in neutrophils.[]
