41 Possible Causes for Bounding Pulse, Chest Pain, Tetralogy of Fallot

  • Patent Ductus Arteriosus

The PDA in tetralogy of Fallot with pulmonary atresia (ToF-PA) arises, in the left aortic arch, from underneath the arch and connects to the proximal left pulmonary artery[] In that case, typically, precordial activity is increased and peripheral pulses are bounding.[] Such an association presenting with chest pain mimicking an infarct aneurysm with angina or a takotsubo cardiomyopathy with chest pain is difficult to differentiate clinically[]

  • Congenital Aortic Insufficiency

It is often associated with other pathologies like: interatrial septum defect, tetralogy of Fallot, pulmonary valve stenosis or ventricular septal defect.[] This leads to a strong and forceful pulse (bounding pulse). Over time, the heart becomes less able to pump blood to the body.[] It can cause symptoms such as fatigue, fainting, chest pain and shortness of breath.[]

  • Aortic Valve Insufficiency

It is accompanied by systolic hypertension and wide pulse pressure, which account for peripheral physical findings, such as bounding pulses.[] Chronic aortic insufficiency leads to palpitations and dyspnea which is initially exertional and afterward occurs with minimal efforts and chest pain if coronary perfusion[] This leads to a strong and forceful pulse (bounding pulse). Over time, the heart becomes less able to pump blood to the body.[]

  • Acute Aortic Regurgitation

[…] of Fallot - Eisenmenger's syndrome Right: pulmonary and tricuspid valves pulmonary valves ( stenosis, insufficiency ) - tricuspid valves ( stenosis, atresia ) - Ebstein's[] The left lower chamber of the heart widens (dilates) and the heart beats very strongly ( bounding pulse ).[] Consequently, patients may experience dyspnea, chest pain, and general body weakness. The onset of AAR features such as chest pain and dyspnea is sudden.[]

  • Coarctation of the Aorta

We describe the rare case of a 10-month-old girl who had coarctation of the aorta in association with tetralogy of Fallot.[] He was admitted for another cardiac catheterization because of chest pain and breathlessness on exercise.[] Symptoms include: Chest pain Cold feet or legs Dizziness or fainting Decreased ability to exercise Failure to thrive Leg cramps with exercise Nosebleed Poor growth Pounding[]

  • Atrial Septal Defect

[…] of Fallot, truncus arteriosus, and patent ductus arteriosus.[] Causes a continuous 'machinery' murmur loud in systole, soft in diastole, and 'bounding' pulse. patent medicine a drug or remedy protected by a trademark, available without[] Following the removal of the device the patient had complete resolution of headaches and chest pain up to 10 months post-explantation.[]

  • Acyanotic Congenital Heart Disease

[…] of Fallot.[] […] pressure  collapsing or bounding pulse Chest X-ray & ECG - Usually normal unless the PDA is large and symptomatic - Features seen are indistinguishable from VSD - Duct should[] Treatment of valvar PS (moderate/severe): balloon valvuloplasty preferred uncommonly surgical valvotomy 22 Aortic Stenosis Often asymptomatic; otherwise SOB, syncope or chest[]

  • Supraventricular Tachycardia

[…] of Fallot.[] Others may experience: Fainting (syncope) Lightheadedness or dizziness Rapid heartbeat or palpitations Fluttering in the chest Bounding pulse Chest pressure, tightness or[] A 33-yr-old woman developed chest pain and dizziness while on an international commercial flight.[]

  • Aneurysm of Sinus of Valsalva

Associated congenital anomalies included ventricular septal defect in 21, tetralogy of Fallot in 1, and pulmonary stenosis in 1.[] Bounding pulses occur as a result of aortic runoff into lower-pressure chambers.[] A 28-year-old man presented with acute onset of chest pain.[]

  • Congenital Absence of Ductus Arteriosus

Willius FA (1948) Cardiac clinics CXXIV: An unusually early description of the so-called tetralogy of Fallot.[] Premature infants with a significant shunt have bounding pulses and a hyperdynamic precordium.[] The patient was discharged, but later on readmitted to the hospital with chest pain and palpitations.[]
