822 Possible Causes for Cerebellar Ataxia, Urinary Incontinence

  • Dementia

We report the case of a 79-year-old Japanese woman who developed cerebellar ataxia followed by rigidity, dysautonomia and cognitive disorders, and was thus clinically diagnosed[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] incontinence.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] Normal pressure hydrocephalus (NPH): Gait instability, urinary incontinence, and dementia are the signs and symptoms typically found in patients who have NPH.[caregiver.org]

  • Acute Intermittent Porphyria

Clinical features were childhood-onset slowly progressive spastic paraparesis, cerebellar ataxia, peripheral neuropathy, and in 2 patients, optic atrophy as well as vertical[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] Meanwhile, she developed flaccid quardriparesis with urinary incontinence and bulbar palsy. Her brain MRI was normal.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] Urinary signs and symptoms such as painful urination , urinary retention , urinary incontinence , or dark urine have also been known to occur.[en.wikipedia.org]

  • Shy Drager Syndrome

ataxia, impotence, visual troubles, tremor and disturbances of sweating, and muscle wasting leading to severe invalidism.[whonamedit.com] Later on she developed features of autonomic dysfunction including postural hypotension, hyperhydrosis and urinary incontinence so was diagnosed as Shy-Drager Syndrome.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] Syncope, urinary incontinence, impotence, constipation, fecal incontinence, cardiac arrythmias as well as other symptoms occur as a result of widespread pathological changes[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

  • Hereditary ATTR Amyloidosis

ataxia. [4] Other systems On ophthalmologic examination, amyloid deposits may be found in the corpus vitreum.[emedicine.medscape.com] Wasting and weakness are also accompanying features, whereas autonomic system dysfunction is manifested by diarrhea, constipation, urinary incontinence, orthostatic hypotension[symptoma.com] Furuya H et al. • Leptomeningeal Metastasis

Stroke-like episodes have also been described in LM patients.[symptoma.com]

  • Creutzfeldt Jakob Disease

Common first symptoms are dementia, cerebellar ataxia, visual disturbance, and psychiatric symptoms. Seizure as the first symptom of CJD is a very rare finding.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] We report the case of an 18-year-old woman presented with cerebellar ataxia, blurred vision, rapidly progressive dementia, tremor and involuntary movements, urinary incontinence[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] Urinary dysfunction in Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (CJD) patients is attributed to functional incontinence, since they often have immobility and loss of motivation.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

  • Autonomic Neuropathy

ataxia.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] This study evaluated associations among cardiovascular autonomic neuropathy (CAN), female sexual dysfunction (FSD), and urinary incontinence (UI) in women with type I diabetes[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] None had urinary incontinence. Complete recovery from the micturition disturbance took from three months to 18 years.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

  • Progressive Supranuclear Palsy

His principal symptom was cerebellar ataxia for several years.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] Idiopathic normal pressure hydrocephalus (iNPH) is a poorly understood condition, which typically presents with the triad of balance impairment, urinary incontinence and subacute[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] Some of the main symptoms of MSA, such as cerebellar ataxia and orthostatic hypotension, are not rare parts of the clinical picture of PSP.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

  • Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus

Our patient's gait disturbance was unassociated with muscle weakness, spasticity, cerebellar ataxia, or Romberg's sign, and, therefore, was consistent with a frontal gait[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] Urinary incontinence occurs in about 45–90 % of NPH patients.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] Other symptoms of NPH are urinary incontinence, and abnormal gait.[symptoma.com]
