10 Possible Causes for Cerebrospinal Fluid Abnormality, Frontal Intermittent Rhythmic Delta Activity, Occipital Slowing

  • Stroke

In most cases, it occurs in a rhythmic and intermittent manner, and the most commonly and important types are frontal intermittent rhythmic delta activity (FIRDA) ( Fig 2[] Frontal intermittent rhythmic delta activity (FIRDA) in pituitary adenoma. Clin Electroencephalogr 1995;26:173-179. [ Links ] 29.[] ), occipital intermittent rhythmic delta activity (OIRDA) and temporal intermittent rhythmic delta activity (TIRDA) ( Fig 3 ).[]

  • Cerebral Hemorrhage

Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) studies disclosed mononuclear pleocytosis with elevated protein levels.[] Results of a polymerase chain reaction assay of the cerebrospinal fluid were positive for HSV-1. His course was complicated by 2 episodes of cerebral hemorrhage.[] Treatment Treatment includes surgically measuring and correcting pressure on the brain by inserting a tube and draining excess blood and the cerebrospinal fluid that normally[]

  • Brain Neoplasm

For example, blood and cerebrospinal fluid may also be tested to check for substances secreted by tumors (called tumor markers) and for gene abnormalities that are characteristic[] 3 months; new parictal lesion. deficits and with mass effect abnormalities; Dx: MS BAEP Brain stem auditory evoked potential, CC corpus callosum, CSF cerebrospinal fluid,[] They begin in the ependymal cells that line the central canal of the spinal cord and the ventricles of the brain, where cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) is manufactured.[]

  • Glioma

fluid obstruction or brain stem dysfunction such as cranial nerve abnormalities, ataxia and long tract signs developing over a short period of time ( Front Oncol 2012;2:205[] […] buildup of cerebrospinal fluid placing pressure on the brain.[] Gliomas do not usually metastasize by the bloodstream, but they can spread via the cerebrospinal fluid and cause "drop metastases" to the spinal cord.[]

  • Neurosyphilis

A diagnosis of neurosyphilis should be considered in patients with serologic evidence of syphilis and one or more of the following cerebrospinal fluid abnormalities; mononuclear[] The EEG during PcG pre-treatment showed frequent right occipital spikes and right frontocentral slow waves, which disappeared after treatment.[] Cerebrospinal fluid abnormalities in patients with syphilis: association with clinical and laboratory features.[]

  • Migraine

Migraine patients may have multiple metabolic abnormalities associated with obesity, including cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) neuropeptide Y elevation ( Valenzuela et al., 2000[] Strongly associated with the aura many migraineurs get, this slow wave of abnormal neuronal excitation usually begins in the occipital lobe at the back of the brain, and spreads[] Abstract Acute confusional migraine (ACM) shows typical electroencephalography (EEG) patterns of diffuse delta slowing and frontal intermittent rhythmic delta activity (FIRDA[]

  • Metabolic Encephalopathy

The cerebrospinal fluid can also be analyzed for abnormal proteins, chemicals, and cells.[] Spreading of the slow activity toward the occipital leads is a sign of deepening coma in this setting.[] […] patterns, e.g., frontal intermittent rhythmic delta activity (FIRDA), or spikes and sharp waves as well as spike-wave discharges in temporal regions. [37] In hyponatremia[]

  • Neurodegenerative Disorder

Additionally, tremor ophthalmologic abnormalities, sensory deficits, short stature, hypogonadism, elevated cerebrospinal fluid protein, and absent or prolonged somatosensory[] Skew deviation, limitation of vertical gaze, and slowed vertical saccades are seen.[] Occipital cortical involvement may manifest as cortical blindness, visual field defects, impaired color vision, palinopsia, or Balint syndrome.[]

  • Limbic Encephalitis

Cerebrospinal fluid test results were abnormal in 18 (78%) of 23 patients tested.[] […] brain positronemission- tomography (PET) shows an increase of frontal and temporal metabolism relative to occipital areas.[] Abnormalities in cerebrospinal fluid and electroencephalogram were commonly observed (92% for both). Tumors were not identified in any cases.[]

  • Unverricht-Lundborg Syndrome

Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) analyses were essentially normal with a regular white cell count (1 μL; reference 3 ), and no oligoclonal bands.[] High-amplitude slowing (note scale) with no organized background and multifocal spikes (right frontal and left occipital in this sample).[] Frontal intermittent rhythmic delta activity (FIRDA) in pituitary adenoma. Clin Electroencephalogr. 1995 Jul. 26(3):173-9. [Medline].[]
