13 Possible Causes for Chest X-Ray Abnormal, CT Scan showing Adrenal Mass, Increased Basal Metabolic Rate

  • Renal Cell Carcinoma

Computer tomography (CT) scan showed a solid right renal lesion, multiple liver metastases, florid chest, lymphadenopathy in left supraclavicular region and a right adrenal[oatext.com] A chest x-ray and liver function tests are essential. If chest x-ray is abnormal, chest CT is done. If alkaline phosphatase is elevated, bone scanning is needed.[web.archive.org] In addition, the patient had 2 hypermetabolic uterine leiomyomas.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

  • Hepatocellular Carcinoma

Fig 2 [ 18 F]Fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography (PET)–computed tomography (CT) scan.[ascopubs.org] In addition, mildly raised C-reactive protein levels and abnormal result of the chest X-ray indicated the existence of pneumonia.[frontiersin.org] However, intense hypermetabolic activity in muscles of the abdominal wall was noted.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

  • Pulmonary Clear Cell Tumor

Contrast-enhanced CT scan of the thorax showed the existence of a mass in the left lung vertex involving the region of the aortic-pulmonary window with a site of osseous metastasis[ispub.com] Positron emission tomography scan (F) showing hypermetabolic mass with SUVmax of 4.4.[kjronline.org] In July 2002, a PET scan found no hypermetabolic focus in the lung and patient was declared to be in complete remission.[austinpublishinggroup.com]

  • Teratoma

Abdominal non-enhanced computed tomography (CT) scan showed a huge tumor with mixed density in right adrenal region, which had cystic components, fat, calcifications, and[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] A chest x-ray did not find abnormalities. Abdominal ultrasound examination revealed space-occupying lesions with internal cystic and solid changes in the right kidney.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] Whole-body positron emission tomography (PET) scan identified a small hypermetabolic pelvic mass.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

  • Thoracic Neuroblastoma

A: Computed tomography (CT) through the upper abdomen shows a large soft-tissue mass ( T ) arising in the right adrenal gland and extending to the midline (aorta, arrow ).[oncohemakey.com] A hypermetabolic midline mass in the medial left supraclavicular fossa region was seen extending into the left infraclavicular fossa region and paralaryngeal region inferiorly[ispub.com] B: A CT scan several centimeters lower shows several small nodes ( N ) in the right pararenal area.[oncohemakey.com]

  • Disseminated Histoplasmosis

CT scan of brain showed ring-enhancing lesions, raising suspicion for metastatic malignancy.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] A positron emission tomography-computed tomography scan revealed prominent hypermetabolic lesions in the cecum and the lung, pointing towards a malignant disease.[karger.com] Work-up revealed bilateral adrenal masses, biopsy showed granulomatous changes consistent with histoplasmosis.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

  • Adrenal Gland Metastasis

    (a) US scan shows a septated cystic mass of the right adrenal gland (arrows). (b) Contrast material-enhanced CT scan shows a lobulated cystic mass with calcified septa.[pubs.rsna.org] A chest x-ray, chest CT scan, and bone scan were all negative for metastases. Laboratory tests revealed no abnormalities.[casesjournal.biomedcentral.com] The PET/CT revealed a nodular hypermetabolic focus located on the left adrenal gland, measuring 2.5 2.6 2.8 cm, and the maximum standardized uptake value was 3.9 ( Fig. 1[spandidos-publications.com]

  • Carcinoma of the Lung

Chest CT scan showed a lobulated mass of 2.7 cm 2.7 cm in size at the upper left lung.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] These include: Imaging tests such X-rays, positron emission tomography (PET) scans, CT scans or MRI scans of the chest.[livescience.com] ., Ichinose, Y. (2008) Pulmonary typical carcinoid tumor and liver metastasis with hypermetabolism on 18-fluorodeoxyglucose PET: a case report.[scindeks.ceon.rs]

  • Endometriosis

The remainder of the examination shows no abnormalities. His fasting serum aldosterone:renin ratio is increased. A CT scan shows a 1-cm, left adrenal mass.[pejoweb.com] A large hypermetabolic solid mass in the left pelvic wall and several lymph nodes with elevated FDG activity were noted, which indicated malignancy.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] The chest is clear to auscultation. The abdomen is soft and nontender. An X-ray of the chest shows no abnormalities.[pejoweb.com]

  • Orbital Metastasis

A thoracic- abdominal CT scan showed an 83 mm*43 mm*42 mm retroperitoneal heterogeneous mass located on the left adrenal gland (Figure 2 ) embracing vascular elements and[bmcpediatr.biomedcentral.com] The X-ray skull showed evidence of craniotomy in the right Pronto-parietal region. The chest and skeletal survey revealed nothing abnormal.[ijo.in] (B) 18-FDG-PET scan showing multiple hypermetabolic lesions in the stomach, lymph nodes, liver, and bone.[e-ce.org]
