57 Possible Causes for Congestive Heart Failure, Papilledema, Retinal Vessels Attenuated

  • Hypertension

Note the generalised tapetal retinal oedema and retinal vessel attenuation.[] Retinal changes may include arteriolar narrowing, hemorrhages, exudates, and, in patients with encephalopathy, papilledema ( hypertensive retinopathy ).[] Signs of hypertensive retinopathy are frequently seen in adults 40 years and older, and are predictive of incident stroke, congestive heart failure, and cardiovascular mortality[]

  • Hypertensive Crisis

If the retinal vasculature retains autoregulation ability, vessels will maintain a small caliber to cope with high blood pressure.[] Retinal papilledema and/or fundal bleeds and exudates are another sign of target organ damage.[] Subsequently, she developed a hypertensive crisis with congestive heart failure and died of a cardiac arrhythmia and shock.[]

  • Acute Hypertensive Retinopathy

The retinal vessels are attenuated and there are microvascular abnormalities in the posterior pole. There are scattered retinal hemorrhages.[] Introduction Focal spasms followed by progressive sclerosis and narrowing of retinal vessels Results in flame hemorrhage from vessel rupture, formation of exudates, and papilledema[] heart failure.[]

  • Preeclampsia

vessel analysis and blood pressure measurements throughout gestation, he found that those who later developed preeclampsia had significant attenuation early in gestation.[] […] the following: Sustained systolic BP greater than 160 mm Hg or diastolic BP greater than 110 mm Hg Tachycardia Tachypnea Rales Mental status changes Hyperreflexia Clonus Papilledema[] heart failure and cerebrovascular disease.[]

  • Panuveitis

The vessels OS were mildly attenuated, and far in the periphery contiguous bands of retinal fibrosis were visible (Figure 1) .[] Spectral domain OCT demonstrated increased retinal nerve fiber thickness and positive angle of deflection of the RPE-Bruch’s complex suggestive of papilledema.[] CONGESTIVE HEART FAILURE Worsening and new onset congestive heart failure (CHF) has been reported with TNF blockers.[]

  • Peripheral Vasoproliferative Retinopathy

[…] ischemia from attenuation of the retinal vessels or exudation from incompetent retinal vessels.[] […] arterioles, hemorrhages in the nerve fiber layers and the outer plexiform layer, exudates and cotton-wool patches, arteriosclerotic changes, and, in malignant hypertension, papilledema[] heart failure and stroke.[]

  • Spastic Ataxia with Congenital Miosis

The fundus shows black "bone spicules" of pigment clustered around vessels in the midperiphery. The disc is waxy pale, and there is attenuation of both retinal vessels.[] Blind spot enlargement occurs when papilledema is present.[] heart failure, and subaortic stenosis Skeletal findings - Pes cavus, scoliosis, and hammer toes Metabolic abnormalities - Abnormal glucose tolerance test results, diabetes[]

  • Toxic Retinopathy

.  Dose : 40-75 mg/day  2400 mg/day for 12 months: pigmentary changes, retinal vessel attenuation, optic nerve pallor. 11. Granular pigment changes 12.[] Retinoic acid derivatives were associated with impaired night vision, and mitotane was associated with a pigmentary retinopathy and papilledema.[] Digoxin (Lanoxin) is a cardiac glycoside used in the treatment of atrial fibrillation, atrial flutter and congestive heart failure.[]

  • Non-Syndromic Ocular Stickler Syndrome Type 1

Those changes are accompanied by disc atrophy and attenuation of the retinal arterioles. Finally, the visual field constricts totally and vision is lost.[] Dilated cardiomyopathy consists of ventricular enlargement, abnormal systolic and diastolic left ventricular function, symptoms of congestive heart failure, and premature[] These lesions may lead to increased intracranial pressure and resultant papilledema and optic atrophy.[]

  • Retinohepatoendocrinologic Syndrome

[…] atrophy with no pigmentation, attenuated retinal vessels, and disc pallor), liver (degenerative liver disease), endocrine system (hypothyroidism, “maturity-onset diabetes[] .  Papilledema is a rare finding in pituitary tumors. because of the slow –growing nature of these tumors which cause secondary optic atrophy before the tumor enlarges sufficiently[] Minor criteria are: Obesity Dilated cardiomyopathy with congestive heart failure.[]
