1,554 Possible Causes for Cough, Leukopenia, Thrombocytopenia

  • Influenza

Immune thrombocytopenia (ITP) is an isolated autoimmune condition, often preceded by a viral infection.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] Simple acts such as coughing, sneezing and even laughing can transmit the infection.[symptoma.com] We report herein the case of an unexpected platelet increase in a 46-year-old woman with idiopathic thrombocytopenia (ITP) treated with oseltamivir for influenza.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

  • Infectious Mononucleosis

A 49-year-old man with diabetic mellitus suffered from IM with fever, pharyngitis, parotiditis with lymphadenopathies, thrombocytopenia and splenomegaly.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] Leukopenia and thrombocytopenia are not uncommon.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] We report the case of a 39-year-old man with pulmonary LYG who presented to a hospital after experiencing three months of fever, weight loss, dry cough and exertional dyspnea[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

  • Ehrlichiosis

[…] year-old boy who was referred to the Hematology-Oncology Clinic to consider a bone marrow etiologic process after his pediatrician discovered progressive neutropenia, anemia, thrombocytopenia[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] I report a case of tick-borne ehrlichiosis in which the primary presentation suggested an infectious diarrhea, with impressive leukopenia and thrombocytopenia.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] During her clinical course, she developed fever to 104 degrees F, dry cough, dyspnea on exertion, arthralgias, and nephrotic syndrome. She did not develop a rash.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

  • Paroxysmal Nocturnal Hemoglobinuria

The combination of thrombosis, splenomegaly, and thrombocytopenia (TST) is challenging because anticoagulants are indicated but thrombocytopenia may increase the bleeding[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] CBC showed leukopenia (WBC 2.9 x 103 /µL) with neutropenia (segmented neutrophils 48%), macrocytic anemia (Hgb 6.1 g/dL, hematocrit 20%, MCV,113 fL) and thrombocytopenia ([ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] He presented with cough, fever, and pancytopenia.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

  • Myelodysplasia

Therapy with granulocyte-colony stimulating factor (G-CSF) and granulocyte-monocyte-colony stimulating factor (GM-CSF) caused splenomegaly and severe thrombocytopenia, which[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] Serum copper determination should be included in the work-up of patients with anemia and leukopenia of unclear etiology who have associated myeloneuropathy.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] With bacterial or fungal infections the patient may have fever, cough, dysuria or shock as clinical manifestations.[symptoma.com]

  • Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia

This bleeding is commonly attributed to thrombocytopenia due to bone marrow suppressive chemotherapeutic agents.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] CASE REPORT We report the case of a 58-year-old male patient who presented with severe chest pain, dyspnea, systemic symptoms, leukopenia, normocytic anemia, and severe lactic[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] Wheezing, coughing and/or painful breathing requires immediate medical attention.[danafarberbostonchildrens.org]

  • Brucellosis

The whole blood count revealed isolated thrombocytopenia (4,000/mL), and the patient was admitted to the hematology department with a diagnosis of immune thrombocytopenia.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] Leukopenias associated with thrombocytopenia were observed. BMA showed to be normal.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] All patients presented with fever and cough.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

  • Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever

This child had no serious bleeding manifestations and minimal hemorrhagic skin manifestations despite severe RMSF, concurrent thrombocytopenia, as well as the coagulation[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] Measles typically occurs in the winter to spring and has associated symptoms of cough, coryza, conjunctivitis, and Koplik spots.[visualdx.com] The combination of fever, headache, myalgias, marked left shift in the differential white blood cell count, severe thrombocytopenia, and hyponatremia all help to suggest the[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

  • Typhus

Bone marrow study was done which was suggestive of immune thrombocytopenia. Patient was given a course of steroids with which the thrombocytopenia improved.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] Some of the common abnormalities noted include proteinuria, leukopenia, thrombocytopenia, higher levels of transaminase, and hypoalbuminemia.[symptoma.com] Despite such an extensive consolidation, respiratory symptoms such as cough and breathlessness were inconspicuous thereby posing a diagnostic dilemma.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
