60 Possible Causes for Crowding of the Posterior Fossa

Show results in: Español

  • Macrocephaly

A distinctive feature in more than half the patients was cerebellar tonsillar herniation associated with rapid brain growth and progressive crowding of the posterior fossa[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

  • Parietal Foramina with Cleidocranial Dysplasia

Computed tomography and MRI studies of the head revealed crowding of the posterior fossa with tonsillar and uncal herniation.[pediatrics.aappublications.org] C, On the sagittal T1-weighted magnetic resonance image obtained at 24 days of life, a crowded posterior cranial fossa is seen.[pediatrics.aappublications.org] The MRI revealed brain parenchyma with normal myelination; however, the posterior fossa was crowded with tonsillar herniation and effacement of basal cisterns ( Fig 1 C and[pediatrics.aappublications.org]

  • Syringomyelia

The patient's symptoms gradually disappeared and magnetic resonance imaging studies revealed progressive shrinkage of the syrinx despite persistence of crowding of posterior[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] fossa structures at the level of the foramen magnum.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

  • Hydrocephalus

HYDROCEPHALUS DUE TO POSTERIOR FOSSA CROWDING Chiari I malformation Chiari I malformation.[neuropathology-web.org] Developmental hydrocephalus includes also cases due to crowding of the posterior fossa (Chiari I, skeletal dysplasias), and other poorly cases of hydrocephalus without an[neuropathology-web.org] The abnormality of the posterior fossa and its contents consists of a large foramen magnum, low insertion of the tentorium and a shallow posterior fossa.[neuropathology-web.org]

  • Hemifacial Spasm

The authors hypothesize that the patient's Marfan syndrome contributed to the abnormal shape of his vertebral artery and that, given the lack of space in his crowded posterior[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] Vertebrobasilar dolichoectasia (VBDE) may cause vascular crowding in the limited space of the posterior fossa, increasing the chance of vascular compression of the facial[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] fossa due to the Chiari malformation, the artery caused compression of his facial nerve, resulting in hemifacial spasm.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

  • Achondroplasia

The episodes of hemifacial spasm were probably related to a small posterior cranial fossa volume, the so-called crowding of the posterior fossa.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

  • Cleidocranial Dysplasia

Computed tomography and MRI studies of the head revealed crowding of the posterior fossa with tonsillar and uncal herniation.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] C, On the sagittal T1-weighted magnetic resonance image obtained at 24 days of life, a crowded posterior cranial fossa is seen.[pediatrics.aappublications.org] The MRI revealed brain parenchyma with normal myelination; however, the posterior fossa was crowded with tonsillar herniation and effacement of basal cisterns ( Fig 1 C and[pediatrics.aappublications.org]

  • Trigeminal Neuralgia

From this study, we conclude that patients with TN have a more crowded posterior fossa than healthy subjects.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] Women had a more crowded posterior fossa than men (85.8%   2.1% versus 84.1%   2.6%; P   .023) in patients with TN.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

  • Costello Syndrome

Posterior fossa crowding with cerebellar tonsillar herniation (CBTH) was noted in 27/28 (96%), and in 10/17 (59%) with serial studies posterior fossa crowding progressed.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] posterior fossa crowding.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] The individuals with p.G13C had many typical findings including polyhydramnios, failure-to-thrive, HCM, macrocephaly with posterior fossa crowding, and developmental delay[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

  • Craniosynostosis-Dandy-Walker Malformation-Hydrocephalus Syndrome

HYDROCEPHALUS DUE TO POSTERIOR FOSSA CROWDING Chiari I malformation Chiari I malformation.[neuropathology-web.org] Developmental hydrocephalus includes also cases due to crowding of the posterior fossa (Chiari I, skeletal dysplasias), and other poorly cases of hydrocephalus without an[neuropathology-web.org] The abnormality of the posterior fossa and its contents consists of a large foramen magnum, low insertion of the tentorium and a shallow posterior fossa.[neuropathology-web.org]
