15 Possible Causes for Crusted Eyelids, Transillumination of the Iris

  • Exfoliation Syndrome

Furthermore, prominent concentric, circular iris transillumination (grade 3) was only observed in XFS.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] Other clinical signs associated with exfoliation syndrome are pigment dispersion, transillumination defects of the iris and reduced response to mydriatics.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] PURPOSE: Human eyes with exfoliation syndrome (XFS) exhibit a distinctive pattern of iris transillumination defects that are recapitulated in Lyst mutant mice carrying the[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

  • Vitreous Hemorrhage

Iris transillumination defects and apposition of the optic and iris were found. The patient was diagnosed with Uveitis-Glaucoma-Hyphema (UGH) Syndrome.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] The eyelids crust, flake, scale or redden, and the smooth inside lining of the lids may become rough.[lasercataractsi.com] Iris transillumination defects and apposition of the nasal haptic and ciliary body were found. Slit lamp examination shows red, thickened eyelid margins.[antimicrobe.org] (BADI) and bilateral acute transillumination of the iris (BAIT), the finding of corneal endothelial pigment precipitates is a useful clue to the differential diagnosis. 18,19[touchophthalmology.com]

  • Herpes Zoster Ophthalmicus

There was no associated iris atrophy, no anterior chamber activity, intraocular pressure was 26 mmHg, and fundal examination of the left eye showed a cupped disc (CD 0.9)[nature.com] A few days later, the rash blisters and crusts over. Eventually, the blisters become scans and heal over time. Most people will have swelling and crusting of eyelids.[symptoma.com] Later findings may include iris transillumination defects and poor pupil reactivity.[eyeworld.org]
