65 Possible Causes for Demyelinating Sensorimotor Peripheral Neuropathy

  • Anemia

In a recent study, up to 65% of untreated patients had peripheral neuropathy. Axonal sensorimotor polyneuropathy is present in up to 80%.[web.archive.org] Demyelinating or mixed forms are less frequent. Typical features are decreased conduction velocities and motor or sensory amplitude and denervation on EMG.[web.archive.org] Nerve conduction study (NCS)/EMG findings are as follows: In 1943, Dynes and Norcross found evidence of neuropathy in 23% of patients with PA.[web.archive.org]

  • Neuropathy

Axonal sensorimotor neuropathy Chronic idiopathic ataxic neuropathy Demyelinating sensorimotor neuropathy Disease related peripheral neuropathy Idiopathic chronic neuropathy[icd9data.com] neuropathies; antiganglioside antibodies; cryoglobulins; cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) analysis to evaluate for chronic inflammatory demyelinating neuropathy; antisulfatide antibodies[aafp.org] This reaction can be seen in focal mononeuropathies and in generalized sensorimotor or predominantly motor neuropathies.[clevelandclinicmeded.com]

  • Peripheral Neuropathy

Axonal sensorimotor neuropathy Chronic idiopathic ataxic neuropathy Demyelinating sensorimotor neuropathy Disease related peripheral neuropathy Idiopathic chronic neuropathy[icd9data.com] The patient was found to have a predominantly demyelinating sensorimotor peripheral polyneuropathy upon electrodiagnostic testing.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] Our clinical assessment did not highlight obvious clinical features supporting a peripheral neuropathy but evidence of mild proximal weakness.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

  • Polyneuropathy

This reaction can be seen in focal mononeuropathies and in generalized sensorimotor or predominantly motor neuropathies.[clevelandclinicmeded.com] Pourmand R: Evaluating patients with suspected peripheral neuropathy: Do the right thing, not everything. Muscle Nerve 2002;26:288-290.[clevelandclinicmeded.com] Acquired segmental demyelinating polyneuropathies are often immune-mediated or inflammatory in origin.[clevelandclinicmeded.com]

  • Neurocirculatory Asthenia

Most had length-dependent sensory or sensorimotor polyneuropathies, but demyelinating neuropathies and disorders of nerve root, dorsal root ganglion, and cranial nerves were[doi.org] This laboratory previously observed that 14.6% of patients with postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome had low α3-AChR Ab values. 5 Peripheral neuropathy was the most common[doi.org]

  • Orthostatic Intolerance due to NET Deficiency

Most had length-dependent sensory or sensorimotor polyneuropathies, but demyelinating neuropathies and disorders of nerve root, dorsal root ganglion, and cranial nerves were[doi.org] This laboratory previously observed that 14.6% of patients with postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome had low α3-AChR Ab values. 5 Peripheral neuropathy was the most common[doi.org]

  • Clostridium Difficile

The patient was found to have a predominantly demyelinating sensorimotor peripheral polyneuropathy upon electrodiagnostic testing.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] To our knowledge, only one case of peripheral neuropathy after fecal transplantation has previously been reported.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

  • CANOMAD Syndrome

High titer IgM antibodies to MAG are associated with sensorimotor demyelinating peripheral neuropathy.[clinlabnavigator.com] The majority of cases showed a sensorimotor demyelinating peripheral neuropathy, with predominantly sensory involvement.[omicsonline.org] Antibodies against sulfatide are associated with Guillain-Barre syndrome (GBS), chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy (CIDP), sensory neuropathy and sensorimotor[clinlabnavigator.com]

  • Celiac Disease

The commonest type of peripheral neuropathy we encountered is sensorimotor axonal (26) followed by mononeuropathy multiplex (15), pure motor neuropathy (10), small fibre neuropathy[dx.doi.org] (four) and mixed axonal and demyelinating (two).[dx.doi.org]

  • Autosomal Recessive Lower Motor Neuron Disease with Childhood Onset

Less frequently, seizures, sensorimotor demyelinating peripheral neuropathy and premature cardiovascular disease may occur.[neuroweb.us]
