533 Possible Causes for Dyspnea, Hypoalbuminemia, Pleural Effusion

  • Malignant Neoplasm

A 10-year-old girl presented with dyspnea 5 years after the diagnosis of stage III favorable histology Wilms' tumor and was found to have a right intrathoracic mass arising[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] In rare cases such as ours, however, they present with paresthesia of the arm, mild dyspnea and lung dysfunction. 3,4 Peripheral pulmonary lipomas are indistinguishable from[archbronconeumol.org]

  • Multicentric Castleman's Disease

In each case, tocilizumab alleviated symptoms, including generalized fatigue, pyrexia, and alleviated biochemical abnormalities, including anemia, hypoalbuminemia, hypergammaglobulinemia[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] He was treated with plasmapheresis, resulting in a transient improvement of dyspnea.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] Nevertheless, his general condition, including pleural effusion and ascites, worsened, and C-reactive protein and interleukin-6 levels showed marked increases.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

  • Systemic Amyloidosis

Ascites, as seen in our patient, is a rare finding and is often a function of decreased cardiac contractility from amyloid infiltration or hypoalbuminemia from nephrotic syndrome[karger.com] A 73-year-old woman was admitted due to exertional dyspnea.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] Persistent pleural effusions are not common in patients with primary systemic amyloidosis (AL).[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

  • Chronic Constrictive Pericarditis

Hypoalbuminemia is seen with protein-losing enteropathy from chronic hepatic congestion.[cancertherapyadvisor.com] We present a patient with unexplained dyspnea, recurrent right-side pleural effusion, and ascites.[hindawi.com] A 61-year-old male had complained of cough and dyspnea on effort, with right pleural effusion.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

  • Pulmonary Embolism

Laboratory findings showed hypoalbuminemia and proteinuria.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] The patient suffered dyspnea after undergoing the injection laryngoplasty.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] A 53-year-old man was admitted to the cardiology clinic with complaints of dyspnea, chest pain, and general weakness after walking.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

  • Chylothorax

Complications due to the chylothorax were reported in 27 neonates (25.2%): hypoalbuminemia hyponatremia (n 18), hypoalbuminemia (n 4), hypoalbuminemia with cutaneous flushing[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] We treated a 39-year-old woman who presented with progressive dyspnea over 6 months.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] Abstract A chylothorax and a cholesterol pleural effusion represent the two forms of lipid effusions encountered.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

  • Pneumococcal Pneumonia

[…] analysis, preceding RVIs (odds ratio [OR], 2.49; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.10-5.60), male sex (OR, 2.58; 95% CI, 1.24-5.38), old age (OR, 2.92; 95% CI, 1.37-6.24), hypoalbuminemia[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] A 36-year-old pregnant woman was visiting the emergency department for dyspnea and flu-like syndrom that had been going on for a week.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] High C-reactive protein (CRP) ( 20 mg·dL(-1)) (odds ratio (OR) 2.36, 95% CI 1.45-3.85), pleural effusion (OR 2.03, 95% CI 1.13-3.65) and multilobar involvement (OR 1.69, 95%[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

  • Congestive Heart Failure

Hypoalbuminemia is considered an independent predictor of mortality, especially in elderly patients.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] Features due to left heart failure: Dyspnea, orthopnea and paroxysmal nocturnal dyspnea: These symptoms develop due to congestion of the lungs.[symptoma.com] A 79-year-old woman experienced episodic dyspnea with unilateral pleural effusion for 2 years.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

  • Pericardial Effusion

The exact cause of pericardial effusion is unclear but hypoalbuminemia, drug-induced and idiopathic are possible causes.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] However, she began to experience dyspnea on exertion leading to admission.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] Tuberculosis Uncommon except in AIDS Viral infection Coxsackie A and B virus Uremia 18% in acute uremia Other causes Serous fluid or transudate Congestive heart failure Hypoalbuminemia[learningradiology.com]

  • Systemic Lupus Erythematosus

Laboratory findings on admission revealed proteinuria, microscopic hematuria, anemia, leukopenia, hypoalbuminemia, hypocomplementemia, and slightly elevated levels of serum[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] Initially the patient was treated for medically unexplained dyspnea (MUD) without much improvement.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] Eosinophilic pleural effusion in elderly patients is most commonly due to malignancies and infections.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
