842 Possible Causes for Dyspnea, Iron Deficiency, Jaundice

  • Hereditary Hemorrhagic Telangiectasia

Evaluations of her jaundice revealed chronic parenchymal liver disease with multiple nodules in the liver with early portal hypertension.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] Bevacizumab, a VEGF inhibitor, reduces epistaxis, telangiectasias, and iron-deficiency anemia.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] He has not experienced worsening hypoxemia or dyspnea and has not developed PAVMs.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

  • Paroxysmal Nocturnal Hemoglobinuria

Although the severe obstructive jaundice requiring endoscopic therapy following cholecystectomy was complicated, critical intravascular hemolysis and thrombosis were not observed[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] PNH through chronic intravascular hemolysis induces an urinary iron loss. This is the only cause of hemolytic anemia inducing iron deficiency.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] The combination of hemolysis and 1 or more of the clinical symptoms such as abdominal pain, chest pain, or dyspnea, resulted in a much greater increased mortality rate when[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

  • Thalassemia

Clinical description Patients present with moderate to severe anemia, jaundice and splenomegaly.[orpha.net] He presented with chest discomfort and progressive dyspnea. Early echocardiogram showed mild pericardial effusion.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] Red cell distribution width in iron deficiency anemia and β-thalassemia minor [letter]. Am J Clin Pathol. 2008 ; 130 : 313 – 314. 5..[doi.org]

  • Hemophilia

Look for jaundice, other signs of liver failure (eg, cirrhosis from viral infection), and signs of opportunistic infections in patients who are HIV seroconverted.[web.archive.org] […] frank red blood per rectum, and abdominal pain Genitourinary: Hematuria, renal colic, and post circumcision bleeding Other: Epistaxis, oral mucosal hemorrhage, hemoptysis, dyspnea[emedicine.com] Most people can safely return to work after the jaundice clears, even if their liver function test results aren’t quite normal.[arizonahemophilia.org]

  • Acute Hepatic Porphyria

[…] nutrition 180 Nutritional disorders and their management 200 Clinical biochemistry of the gastrointestinal tract 214 Assessment of hepatic function and investigation of jaundice[books.google.com] Inducing iron deficiency improves erythropoiesis and photo sensivity in congenital erythropoietic porphyria. Blood. 2015;126(2):257–261.[medcraveonline.com] A 27-year-old man was admitted to our hospital for evaluation and treatment of liver dysfunction with jaundice and hepatosplenomegaly.[ci.nii.ac.jp]

  • Anemia

[…] bloody stools if the anemia is due to blood loss through the gastrointestinal tract. rapid heart rate low blood pressure rapid breathing pale or cold skin yellow skin called jaundice[web.archive.org] The erythrocytes are hypochromic and microcytic and the iron binding capacity is increased. 280 Iron deficiency anemias 280.0 Iron deficiency anemia secondary to blood loss[icd9data.com] Acute anemia presents with symptoms owing to acute blood loss; chronic anemia may present with worsening fatigue, dyspnea, lightheadedness, or chest pain.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

  • Heart Failure

  • Cooley's Anemia

Children develop life-threatening anemia, have failure to thrive, and may develop jaundice.[secure.ssa.gov] As in mild alpha thalassemia, physicians often mistake the small red blood cells of the person with beta thalassemia minor as a sign of iron-deficiency anemia and incorrectly[unicosandiego.org] Splenomegaly, episodes of jaundice and roentgenologic evidence of bone involvement were prominent features.[jamanetwork.com]

  • Pyruvate Kinase Deficiency

Pyruvate kinase deficiency may cause pregnancy-associated jaundice.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] Iron overload has been reported with pyruvate kinase deficiency.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS Fatigue Lethargy Jaundice  Pallor (Paleness of skin)  Dyspnea (Shortness of breath) Tachycardia (Rapid heart rate ). (Grace et al., 2015). 7.[slideshare.net]

  • Idiopathic Pulmonary Hemosiderosis

Here, we present a case of a 15-month-old boy with IPH who presented with anemia, jaundice, and failure to thrive, as well as a history of hemoptysis that was not initially[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] We conclude that IPH should always be considered when investigating the cause of iron deficiency anemia.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] She had also suffered from dry cough and gradually increasing dyspnea for two years.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
