350 Possible Causes for Echogenic Kidneys, small

  • Malabsorption Syndrome

We describe the case of a 51-year-old woman presenting with chronic small bowel diarrhoea and malabsorption.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] Ultrasound showed both kidneys to be 9.5 cm in length with mild cortical thinning and increased echogenicity. Her daily urine volume ranged between 2000-2600 mL.[consultant360.com] The cause of her complaints turned out to be immunoproliferative small intestinal disease which is a very uncommon disorder in our geographical region.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

  • Urinary Tract Infection

Although some of small studies demonstrated a small benefit for women with recurrent UTIs, there were no statistically significant differences when the results of a much larger[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] Ultrasonography revealed large hypoechoic mass, including multiple cysts in the upper pole of the transplanted kidney.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] Cervical lymph node histopathology confirmed a diagnosis of small cell carcinoma of the lung.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

  • Patau Syndrome

The most common physical signs for Patau Syndrome are the decreasing of muscle tone, small hands, small ears, small head and mouth, as well as wide and short hands with short[en.wikipedia.org] Approximately 40% of fetuses with trisomy 13 have echogenic intracardiac foci. [4] 30% of the affected fetuses have enlarged echogenic kidneys similar t o polycystic kidneys[ijri.org] A mild clinical phenotype is described in a patient with duplication of 13q32-- qter and a small deletion of 18p11.32-- pter.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

  • Henoch-Schönlein Purpura

Simultaneous involvement of small intestine and colon is rare.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] Ultrasound Echogenic kidneys, target or doughnut sign in case of intussusception.[radiopaedia.org] The small bowel is the most frequently involved GI site. Intussusception is rare but is the most common surgical complication.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

  • Microscopic Polyangiitis

IS SMALL-VESSEL VASCULITIS PRESENT?[aafp.org] Both kidneys exhibited mildly increased renal parenchymal echogenicity and normal size.[kjim.org] Microscopic polyangiitis (MPA), Wegener’s granulomatosis (WG) and Churg-Strauss syndrome (CSS) involve preferentially small vessels. • Intestinal Perforation

A case of small intestinal perforation and peritonitis after tumescent liposuction performed in an ambulatory setting elsewhere is presented.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] Abdominal Ultrasound Bowel wall with central echogenic focus, hypoechoic rim(pseudo-kidney)-necrotic bowel and imminent perforation Intermittent gas bubbles in liver parenchyma[slideshare.net] The perforations were all located in the small intestine and compared to eighty-seven patients with non-traumatic small intestinal perforation.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

  • Purpura

It is manifested with small hemorrhages in the skin, gastrointestinal symptoms, arthritis, and nephropathy.[icd9data.com] Ultrasound Echogenic kidneys, target or doughnut sign in case of intussusception.[radiopaedia.org] Immunofluorescence examination shows strong positivity for IgA deposits in walls of dermal small vessels. • Cystic Kidney

In contrast to hereditary cystic kidney disease, ACKD is characterized by the presence of multiple small cysts in bilaterally small kidneys.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] A cohort of 44 families in whom antenatal renal ultrasound scanning findings in affected cases included bilateral cystic kidney disease, echogenic kidneys or enlarged kidneys[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] […] and papillary structures with admixture of small foci of highly cellular sarcomatoid features.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

  • Essential Hypertension

[…] hemodynamic (133Xe-washout) and angiographic studies were performed in 46 patients with essential hypertension to demonstrate a possible correlation between graded renal small[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] […] had increased cortical echogenicity on the right and left kidneys, respectively.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] In a small group, 6 We conclude from these surprising findings that hypertension is not a continuous, multifactorial part of the normal blood pressure distribution.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

  • Adenoma

Investigation is required because a small percentage of these is malignant.[en.wikipedia.org] Renal ultrasound demonstrated a heterogeneous, echogenic mass measuring 3.8 cm at the upper pole of the right kidney.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] The experimental group, p.Q315* variant group, and AIP small interfering RNA-overexpressing group promoted cell proliferation at 24 and 48 hours, respectively (compared with[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
