23 Possible Causes for Edema, Inability to Stand on Tiptoes

  • Fracture

Although type I usually can be treated by only observation, type II may cause obstruction of the pharyngeal airway due to hematoma and edema of the floor of the mouth.[] And these features are : • Pain • Deformity • Edema • Loss of function • Muscle spasm • Muscle atrophy • Abnormal movement • limitation of joint motion • shock The answer[] Broken bones bleed, and the blood and associated swelling (edema) causes pain.[]

  • Achilles Tendon Rupture

View this information in PDF format Phase I: Weeks 0 – 3 Goals: Wound healing and edema control. Weeks 0 - 1 Postoperative dressing care. Elevation ankle/foot.[] Inability to stand on tiptoe. If the tendon is completely torn, you may feel a gap just above the back of the heel.[] Furthermore, MRI is particularly poor at differentiating osteomyelitis from benign postoperative marrow edema and from marrow edema due to Charcot arthropathy.[]

  • Ankle Fracture

The main purpose of this systematic review was to investigate the effect of compression treatment on the perioperative course of ankle fractures and describe its effect on edema[] Despite experiencing perioral edema and difficulty breathing after the hardware removal, she had complete resolution of the symptoms at the 2-week, 6-week, and 12-month follow-up[] Clinical features include complex pain, muscle atrophy, cyanosis, and edema.[]

  • Osteomyelitis

T1 intermediate to low signal central component (fluid) surrounding bone marrow of lower signal than normal due to edema cortical bone destruction T2 bone marrow edema central[] Some limitations CT include 20 : inability to confidently detect marrow edema; therefore, a normal CT does not exclude early osteomyelitis. image degradation by streak artifact[] Axial T1–WI showing fat globules (white arrow) within the bone marrow edema of the tibia.[]

  • Metatarsal Fracture

Rarely, associated ecchymosis and edema can be present. Physical examination reveals tenderness at the fifth metatarsal base.[] An MRI is needed to determine bone edema, or swelling, to confirm the presence of a fracture.[]

  • Navicular Fracture

If there is bone marrow edema of the bone without any fracture line, then this can be treated conservatively with a short course of nonweightbearing in a boot or cast.[] Note extensive surrounding edema.[] Bony edema on T 2 -weighted images, an early finding, can add useful information regarding the acuity of the injury and delineate associated injury 32 ( Figure 5 ) .[]

  • Cellulitis of the Foot

Edema makes you even more susceptible.[] It results in pain, erythema, edema, and warmth. Since the epidermis is not involved, cellulitis is not transmitted by person-to-person contact.[] If you have edema, ask your doctor about wearing compression stockings or sleeves.[]

  • Lumbar Disk Herniation

Increased ADC values were considered to be because of edema and Wallerian degeneration of compressed nerve roots.[] A damaged nerve root responds in a characteristic response, called "edema" ("swelling".)[] MRI also has the ability to demonstrate damage to the intervertebral disc, including anular tears and edema in the adjacent end plates.[]
