23 Possible Causes for EMG Shows Chronic Denervation

  • Jankovic Rivera Syndrome

Abstract Myoclonus occurs in a variety of pathological conditions, some inherited. We recently evaluated 3 members of a Louisiana‐Texas family with an autosomal dominant disorder manifested by adult‐onset, generalized, stimulus‐sensitive myoclonus and slowly progressive distal muscle weakness and wasting. The analyses[…][]

  • Monomelic Amyotrophy

Electromyography (EMG) showed chronic denervation in the C7-T1 myotomes.[] EMG shows no abnormalities in the lower extremities, but does show chronic denervation changes in the upper limb. F ig . 3.[] Electromyography (EMG) showed acute over chronic denervation of the right interossei dorsalis manus muscles and chronic reinnervative changes in the left abductor pollicis[]

  • Distal Hereditary Motor Neuropathy

Concentric needle EMG showed evidence of chronic denervation in distal muscles.[]

  • Abetalipoproteinemia

Motor conduction was normal, although EMG indicated subclinical signs of partial chronic denervation.[] The surely nerves showed a decreased number of large fibers ( 7 μm); in the patient with the neuropathy of shortest duration, small fibers and clusters of regenerating fibers[] The sural nerves showed a decreased number of large fibers (greater than 7 micron); in the patient with the neuropathy of shortest duration, small fibers and clusters of regenerating[]

  • Dravet Syndrome

Nerve conduction study was normal or nearly normal in all patients, but EMG showed features of chronic denervation.[]

  • Distal Hereditary Motor Neuropathy Type 7A

Resting EMG of the leg muscles revealed myokymia and volitional EMG showed features of chronic partial denervation.[]

  • Myelitis

Repeat EMG/NCS was performed on 4 children a median of 8 months after onset and showed ongoing denervation and chronic reinnervation in 3 children with persistent deficits[] EMG changes correlated with persistent deficits better than imaging.[] Repeat MRI was performed in 7 of 8 children a median of 7 months after onset and showed significant improvement or normalization in all but one child.[]

  • Alcohol Hallucinosis

The distal latency of the deep peroneal nerve is increased, the EMG shows active and chronic denervation of the extensor digitorum brevis.[] EMG studies showed both active denervation, as evidenced by fibrillation and positive sharp waves, as well as chronic denervation, demonstrated by increased amplitude and[]

  • Spinal and Bulbar Muscular Atrophy

Needle EMG revealed a chronic partial denervation with reduced interference in hand and distal leg muscles but with normal heading in all tested proximal muscles.[] Genetic studied showed an expansion of CAG repeat in the first exon of the androgen receptor gene, which suggests diagnosis of X-SBMA.[]

  • Cardiodysrhythmic Potassium-Sensitive Periodic Paralysis

Electromyography (EMG) of limb muscles showed no evidence of myotonia. Muscle biopsy from deltoid muscle, showed mild myopathic findings with chronic denervation.[] […] findings with chronic denervation.[] The patient’s electrophysiological examination included nerve conduction study and electromyography (EMG) exclude the presence of myotonia and muscle biopsy showed mild myopathic[]
