563 Possible Causes for Epileptiform Activity, Hyperreninemia, Series of Focal Spikes

  • Epilepsy

It remains unclear whether seizures and epileptiform activity on the EEG are causative or comorbid.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] Through an accurate Video-EEG polygraphic analysis, we demonstrated that seizures are related to an abnormal increase of epileptiform activity after eye-closure or loss of[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] Her EEG at 2 years was reported as showing frequent left central epileptiform activity.[brain.oxfordjournals.org]

epileptiform activity.[anesthesiology.pubs.asahq.org] The cerebral cortex is the only area from which epileptiform activity arises with any frequency.[dartmouth.edu] Levetiracetam may selectively prevent hypersynchronization of epileptiform burst firing and propagation of seizure activity.[drugbank.ca]

  • Hyponatremia

In this setting, release of both antidiuretic hormone (ADH) (increases renal permeability to water) and renin (increases renal sodium retention) occurs.[doi.org]

  • Juvenile Myoclonic Epilepsy

The electro encephalogram revealed generalised polyspike and wave epileptiform activity with photosensitivity.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] SIGNIFICANCE: These findings implicated the abnormality of thalamomotor cortical network in JME which were associated with the genesis and propagation of epileptiform activity[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] Among nonrapid eye movement (NREM) sleep stages, EEG epileptiform activity was maximal during stages III and IV.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

  • Idiopathic Generalized Epilepsy

Wicket spikes (WS) are a normal variant EEG pattern that sometimes can be mistaken for epileptiform activity.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] Forty patients out of 249 (16.1%) had increased epileptiform activity during activation procedures.[annalsofian.org] Three minutes of artifact-free EEG background activity (without epileptiform potentials) was analyzed for each patient in both conditions.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

  • West Syndrome

Repeated EEGs did not show corresponding epileptiform activity. We conclude that these abnormal movements can be attributed to side effects of hormonal treatment.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] With quinidine therapy, decreased epileptic spasms and decreased epileptiform paroxysmal activity were observed by interictal EEG.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] Drake, Sylvester Chuang and Hiroshi Otsubo, Spatial relationship between fast and slow components of ictal activities and interictal epileptiform discharges in epileptic spasms[doi.org]

  • Benign Adult Familial Myoclonic Epilepsy

.  No associated brain pathology  Typically some improvement in neurological status once epileptiform activity has resolved. 40.  Severe myoclonic epilepsy or severe polymorphic[slideshare.net] Following a first unprovoked seizure, unequivocal epileptiform activity shown on EEG can be used to assess the risk of seizure recurrence.[patient.info] This is similar to epileptiform activity admixed into vertex waves and sleep spindles, called dyshormia by Niedermeyer (Fig. 1).[euroformhealthcare.biz]

  • Neonatal Seizures

The duration was calculated as the elapsed time from the detection of epileptiform activity in one or more electroencephalographic channels to complete cessation of epileptiform[nejm.org] […] electrical activity during an EEG but without any clinically visible seizure activity).[merckmanuals.com] Of 157 neonates screened for enrollment, 59 had epileptiform activity on electroencephalograms and were enrolled in the study.[nejm.org]

  • Lennox-Gastaut Syndrome

On the contrary, he found that spike-wave complexes appeared in bursts, in isolated form or even focal, with a gradual tendency to the normalization of EEG basic rhythms [[omicsonline.org] Epileptiform activity in Lennox-Gastaut phenotype, and by implication in LGS, appears to be amplified and expressed through association cortical areas, possibly because the[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] The patient may lean forward with his/her mouth open and signs of myoclonic epileptiform activity may become evident in a twitching of the eyelids and mouth.[epilepsyontario.org]
