506 Possible Causes for Euthyroidism, Goiter

  • Endocrine Dysfunction

In affected adults endocrine features include hypergonadotropic hypogonadism, multinodular goiter, and diabetes mellitus.[] The Sick Euthyroid syndrome is defined by the presence of low T3 or low T4 along with normal TSH levels.[] ENDOCRINOLOGIC 204 PARANEOPLASTIC ENDOCRINE 223 SEX HORMONES AND HUMAN 219 APPROACH TO THE PATIENT WITH 37 ADVERSE EFFECTS OF IODIDE 360 MORPHOLOGY OF THE THYROID 38 NONTOXIC GOITER[]

  • Acromegaly

An ultrasound thyroid scan showed a multinodular goiter.[] She did not complain of recent headaches, vomiting, visual difficulties, or galactorrhea and was clinically euthyroid.[] Benign neoplasms were found in majority of patients with acromegaly (71.6%) most notably: nodular goiter and colon polyps; malignant lesions were rare (4.5%).[]

  • Pendred's Syndrome

Pendred's syndrome (PS) is an autosomal recessive disorder characterized by goiter and congenital sensorineural hearing loss.[] It appears that their compensated euthyroid state was maintained by the raised T-3 levels.[] All 3 homozygous individuals for the PDS mutation had goiters.[]

  • Toxic Thyroid Adenoma

Five out of 6 (83%) hyperfunctioning nodules within toxic multinodular goiters harbored a TSH receptor mutation.[] One year later the patient remains normocalcemic, euthyroid and clinically well.[] RESULTS: 90% of patients with TA and 80% with TMG recovered euthyroidism at the third month. One patient with TA and three with TMG required two doses.[]

  • Nontoxic Goiter

[…] for sporadic nontoxic goiter.[] The total TBF was 31 (9-109) ml/min (inner 95 percentile range) in euthyroid patients, similar in all 3 groups. This is less than in most earlier reports.[] Euthyroid patients were enrolled at baseline, 80% of whom remained euthyroid six months post-treatment, with 20% experiencing subclinical thyroid dysfunction.[]

  • Hashimoto's Thyroiditis

A clearly enlarging goiter was observed before the diagnosis of lymphoma in 3 patients.[] Ninety three patients with euthyroid HT and 31 age- and gender-matched euthyroid control subjects were enrolled into this study.[] In advanced stages, a goiter can interfere with proper breathing and swallowing.[]

  • Hyperthyroidism

The expression levels of IL-2, IL-6, and TGF-β were significantly increased in the patients with senile goiter and hyperthyroidism, but in the senile patients with goiter,[] All individuals were rendered euthyroid by final assessment.[] Measurements were repeated after euthyroidism was reached in subjects with hyperthyroidism.[]

  • Graves Disease

Much of the excess risk is confined to individuals treated for toxic nodular goiter.[] Euthyroid Graves' disease (EGD) is a rare condition marked by the onset of thyroid-associated ophthalmopathy (TAO) in the absence of thyroid dysfunction.[] Euthyroidism was achieved in 14 patients at 156 62 days post-MMI treatment, but 22 patients had still not achieved euthyroidism by the last follow-up time-point (208 80 days[]

  • Thyroid Lymphoma

The sonographic findings for 13 surgically proven primary thyroid lymphomas were analyzed and compared to those for 27 nodular goiters.[] B-type symptoms are uncommon (20%) and approximately half of patients are euthyroid. The aetiology of thyroid lymphoma is unclear.[] On clinical examination, he was euthyroid, and no abnormal findings were detected.[]

  • Potassium Iodide

None of the neonates exposed to KI had thyroid dysfunction or goiter.[] Eight euthyroid patients aged between 2 to 65 years old were included.[] Current American Thyroid Association (ATA) guidelines (Recommendation 22) call for its routine administration in GD but avoidance in toxic multinodular goiter (TMNG).[]
