1,285 Possible Causes for Genu Valgum, Schmorl's Nodes, Some Patients May Be Clinically Asymptomatic

  • Osteomalacia

The absence of short stature and lower limb deformities in some of these patients suggest a not so intense hypophosphatemia during infancy and childhood (53).[scielo.br] Bowing of the legs (genu varum) is typical, but knock knees (genu valgum) can also occur.[patient.info] A recent study describes the variability in clinical manifestations in one family, including asymptomatic adults, others with bone pain in the sixth decade of life and children[scielo.br]

  • Primary Hyperparathyroidism

It is imperative to consider that some patients, such as our patient described in this report, may be previously asymptomatic clinically and on the basis of laboratory findings[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] Schmorl's nodes are sometimes widespread in die spines of patients with hyperparathyroidism.[healio.com] On examination she had bilateral genu valgum.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

  • Vitamin D Deficiency

It is imperative to consider that some patients, such as our patient described in this report, may be previously asymptomatic clinically and on the basis of laboratory findings[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] However, severe vitamin D deficiency may manifest as rickets with the below clinical features: Bony Signs - Swelling of wrists and ankles - Leg deformities (genu varum or[starship.org.nz] valgum) - Rachitic rosary in the chest wall ( enlarged costochondral joints) - Delayed tooth eruption (no incisors by aged 10 months, no molars by age 18 months) - Craniotabes[starship.org.nz]
