64 Possible Causes for Goiter, Hashimoto's Thyroiditis, Iodine-induced Hyperthyroidism

  • Graves Disease

Needle aspiration from the nodule yielded evidence of Hashimoto's thyroiditis. The patient also tested strongly positive for antithyroid peroxidase antibodies.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] Conversely in some patients (iodine induced hyperthyroidism, drugs like amiodarone and propronolol which block the conversion of T 4 to T 3 ), only TT 4 or FT 4 is elevated[intechopen.com] Much of the excess risk is confined to individuals treated for toxic nodular goiter.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

  • Iodine-Induced Hypothyroidism

[…] develop iodide-induced hypothyroidism, similar to findings previously reported in euthyroid subjects with Hashimoto's thyroiditis, with a previous episode of painful subacute[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] Other beneficial clinical consequences are less severe [iodine-induced hyperthyroidism] and a shorter duration of treatment of [iodine-induced hyperthyroidism], as well as[healio.com] After oral L-thyroxine treatment the goiter disappeared.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

  • Hyperthyroidism

KEYWORDS: Hashimoto's thyroiditis; hyperthyroidism; pregnancy; systolic arterial hypertension[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] It suggests that HSG also leads to excessive iodine absorption, which induces secondary hyperthyroidism.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] In the patients with goiter, hyperthyroidism and symptoms of exophthalmos, and the patients with goiter, hyperthyroidism without symptoms of exophthalmos, IL-2 and TGF-β expression[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

  • Thyrotoxicosis

Here we describe a fetus/newborn patient with thyrotoxicosis who was born of a woman with Hashimoto thyroiditis and levothyroxine-treated hypothyroidism.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] Jod-Basedow syndrome (iodine-induced hyperthyroidism) is infrequently considered as a cause of thyrotoxicosis, even when typical risk factors are present.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] We speculate that TC was triggered by compromise of tracheal flow induced by the goiter.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

  • Goiter

In this report, we present a case with Hashimoto thyroiditis and thyroid gland anomalies that consist of thyroglossal duct remnant and absence of the isthmus.[doi.org] , because of its potential long-term sequelae (overt hyperthyroidism, iodine-induced hyperthyroidism) ( 6 ).[aerzteblatt.de] Several tests are employed for diagnosing goiter.[symptoma.com]

  • Iodine Deficiency Goiter

Graves disease and Hashimoto’s thyroiditis.[courses.washington.edu] These patients usually develop iodine induced hyperthyroidism.(Table 1). Table I.[clinicaladvisor.com] The largest data have been accumulated in 166 patients with in most cases diffuse goiter.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

  • Hypothyroidism

Clinical picture of Hashimoto's thyroiditis (HT) may significantly vary in pediatric age, ranging from euthyroidism to subclinical hypothyroidism or hyperthyroidism; only[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] Monitoring of prescription rates of thioamides can be a further tool to detect iodine-induced hyperthyroidism in the general population.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] We report the cases of two patients with non-goiterous severe hypothyroidism with markedly elevated CEA levels that effectively decreased with levothyroxine replacement therapy[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

  • Iodine-induced Hyperthyroidism

In addition, iodine-induced damage to the thyroid follicles may accelerate the natural trend of Hashimoto thyroiditis toward hypothyroidism.[emedicine.medscape.com] Iodine-induced hyperthyroidism has been frequently described when iodine is introduced into an iodine-deficient area.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] Before iodine supplementation, all four cities were areas of endemic goiter.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

  • Thyrotoxicosis Factitia

3 Heteroneous in echotexture thyroid typical of hashimotos disease?[healthtap.com] […] thyrotoxicosis Iodine induced hyperthyroidism Iodine-induced hyperthyroidism Iodine-induced thyrotoxicosis Jod Basedow iodine induced hyperthyroidism Thyrotoxicosis due to[icd9data.com] […] that thyrotoxicosis factitia should be suspected and adequately looked for even in old patients with thyrotoxicosis of inexplicable origin, especially in the absence of goiter[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

  • Toxic Nodular Goiter

[…] variant of lymphocytic thyroiditis, 23 patients with Hashimoto's thyroiditis and 23 patients with non-toxic nodular (colloid) goiter.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] Articles with Related Interest: Iodine Induced Hyperthyroidism Making Smarter children with Maternal Iodine Supplements Graves Remission with Iodine Jeffrey Dach MD 7450 Griffin[jeffreydachmd.com] This condition does not only predispose for goiter, but also for follicular thyroid carcinoma.
