1,238 Possible Causes for Hemiparesis, Poor Outcome, Stroke

  • Subarachnoid Hemorrhage

A 73-year-old woman was transferred to our hospital for sudden headache and subsequent left hemiparesis.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] poor outcome of patient with aSAH.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] In contrast, embolic stroke is not recognized as a cause of aneurysmal-like SAH.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

  • Cerebral Thrombosis

She was treated with anticoagulation therapy and her hemiparesis improved within 3 days.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] Study population: Patients are eligible if they have a radiologically proven CVT, a high probability of poor outcome (defined by presence of one or more of the following risk[clinicaltrials.gov] This results in artery occlusion, ischemia and stroke.[symptoma.com]

  • Cerebral Hemorrhage

During the course of illness, the patient had an acute cerebral hemorrhage, which manifested with hemiparesis, dysarthria, and pathologic crying.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] We used multiple logistic regression analysis to show that lower serum uric acid levels independently predicted poor functional outcomes (mRS 2) at 1 year after ischemic stroke[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] While ischemic strokes happen when the blood flow to a part of the brain is interrupted, a hemorrhagic stroke is caused when there is bleeding into brain tissue that kills[web.archive.org]

  • Basilar Artery Occlusion

Abstract A transient hemiparesis may be ocassionally present at an early stage of the thrombosis of the basilar artery (herald hemiparesis).[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] Uni- and multivariable modeling were performed to identify independent predictors of poor outcome.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] Wake-up stroke constitutes about 14 % of all strokes, while the percentage of basilar artery occlusion wake-up strokes is still unknown.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

  • Subdural Hematoma

An 81-year-old man, presenting with left hemiparesis, underwent craniotomy for right organized CSH after 2 burr-hole surgeries.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] Recurrent cases presented a poor outcome (P 0.05).[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] Here, we present the case of a 64 year-old male whose prostate carcinoma's metastasis mimicked a subdural hematoma, and he suffered a middle cerebral artery stroke.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

  • Stroke

SSEH presenting as a hemiparesis is less common and in such situations, it can be mistaken for a cerebrovascular accident (CVA).[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] Our case had a poor outcome, unlike the majority of previously reported cases. Copyright 2018 National Stroke Association. Published by Elsevier Inc.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] How are strokes diagnosed?[medlineplus.gov]

  • Infective Endocarditis

A 72-year-old man with atrial fibrillation treated with dabigatran presented with right hemiparesis and aphasia.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] For patients with discrepant diagnosis, the odds of poor outcome were more than two times higher than the odds of those with the non-discrepant diagnosis.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] The rate of postoperative stroke was not different between the 2 groups: 4% (7 of 174 patients) among patients with no preoperative stroke and 4% (3 of 69 patients) with stroke[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

  • Reversible Cerebral Vasoconstriction Syndrome

A 42-year-old woman, a diagnosed case of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), developed severe headache followed by left hemiparesis and cortical blindness.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] Infarction on baseline imaging predicted poor outcome. Prior serotonergic antidepressant use predicted clinical and angiographic worsening but not poor outcome.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] Related to Surgery and Other Procedures; Cryptogenic Stroke; and Interventions to Improve Recovery after Stroke.[books.google.com]

  • Brain Abscess

The patient presented with right-sided homonymous hemianopsia and right hemiparesis. Emergent surgical drainage was performed and antibiotics were administered.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] Abstract BACKGROUND Aspergillus terreus is an evolving opportunistic pathogen, and patients with A. terreus often have poor outcomes due to its intrinsic resistance to several[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] Early mortality following stroke: a prospective review. Stroke. 1984 ; 15 :492-496.[stroke.ahajournals.org]

  • Cerebral Embolism

However, the patient then developed fever, dyspnea, and subsequent right hemiparesis.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] Two patients had poor functional outcome at discharge.[journals.plos.org] All were extensively investigated and no other causes for stroke were found.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
