1,970 Possible Causes for Hepatosplenomegaly, Thrombocytopenia

  • Infectious Mononucleosis

A 49-year-old man with diabetic mellitus suffered from IM with fever, pharyngitis, parotiditis with lymphadenopathies, thrombocytopenia and splenomegaly.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] Both cases involved young adults presenting with fever, pharyngitis, lymphadenopathy, hepatosplenomegaly, and atypical lymphocytosis confirmed by serologic tests, liver biopsy[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] Leukopenia and thrombocytopenia are not uncommon.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

  • Tuberculosis

Recurrent profound thrombocytopenia can happen after several doses of LZD rechallenging.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] He had mild pallor with mild hepatosplenomegaly. He had high inflammatory markers with pancytopenia in a peripheral blood smear.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] Therefore, reuse of LZD should be avoided after recovery from severe thrombocytopenia due to LZD.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

  • Pharyngitis

Lymphocytosis, along with greater than 10% atypical lymphocytes and mild thrombocytopenia, can be found in mononucleosis.[infectiousdiseaseadvisor.com] Presence of hepatosplenomegaly or lymphadenopathy outside the cervical region should raise suspicions regarding an underlying malignancy.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] When streptococcal pharyngitis is suspected, the physician should listen for the presence of a heart murmur and evaluate the patient for hepatosplenomegaly.[aafp.org]

  • Gaucher Disease

Medical examination showed slight splenomegaly (250 62 mm), thrombocytopenia (platelets 51 109/L), anemia (Hb levels 107 g/L), and β-glucocerebrosidase activity (GBA) in leukocytes[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] The hematologist is at the forefront of specialists to whom patients with Gaucher disease present because of cytopenia and hepatosplenomegaly.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] The phenotype was unusually severe with congenital ichthyosis, hepatosplenomegaly, muscular hypotonia, myoclonus and respiratory failure.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

  • Malaria

[…] describ the case of a young soldier who, after returning from Central Africa, presented a fever associated with petechial purpura and gingivorrhagia, hemogram showed deep thrombocytopenia[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] A 5-year-old immunocompetent girl presented with fever, jaundice, hepatosplenomegaly and pancytopenia.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] Anemia, Leukopenia, and thrombocytopenia are commonly observed hematological abnormalities in malaria and typhoid patients.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

  • Wiskott Aldrich Syndrome

[…] other symptomatic thrombocytopenia, infectious complications, and autoimmunity.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] Epstein-Barr virus (EBV)-associated post-transplantation lymphoproliferative disorder (PTLD) of donor cell origin and hemophagocytosis syndrome with fever, lymphadenopathy, hepatosplenomegaly[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] […] infections: Candida albicans thrombocytopenia recurrent bleeding , especially in first days of life petechiae purpura easy bruising hematemesis epistaxis hematuria chronic eczema hepatosplenomegaly[step1.medbullets.com]

  • Malignant Histiocytosis

The terminal event was characterized by fever, hepatosplenomegaly, thrombocytopenia, and a leukemic blood picture.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] A 70-year-old woman was admitted for evaluation of hepatosplenomegaly, fever and elevated serum LDH levels.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] In case 2 the diagnosis was initially idiopathic thrombocytopenia purpura but he deteriorated on steroids, and was subsequently unsuccessfully treated with chemotherapy and[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

  • Congenital Hepatic Fibrosis

We describe the first case of CHF presenting in an otherwise healthy child, with thrombocytopenia and splenomegaly as the only manifestations of the disease.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] Congenital hepatic fibrosis (CHF) is probably the most common cause of non-icteric hepatosplenomegaly and is encountered mainly in children and young adults.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] In view of the persistent hypoprothrombinaemia, severe thrombocytopenia, and the multiple fistulas the risk of operation was thought to be unacceptable and she continues on[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

  • Familial Myelofibrosis

Blood counts generally reveal normocytic, normochromic anemia, leukopenia, and thrombocytopenia.[symptoma.com] The illness presented with pallor, haemorrhagic symptoms, and hepatosplenomegaly, and the blood picture was that of pancytopenia and leucoerythroblastosis.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] Thus, patients suffering from myelofibrosis eventually develop anemia, leukopenia, and thrombocytopenia.[symptoma.com]

  • Aggressive Systemic Mastocytosis

A rapidly progressive anemia and thrombocytopenia dictated a splenectomy.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] The patient was a 37-week-old male, born by caesarean section owing to hepatosplenomegaly and ascites diagnosed in utero, who exhibited extensive cutaneous and systemic manifestations[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] Respective clinical findings (so called C-Findings) include cytopenias, osteolysis (or osteoporosis) with pathologic fractures, hepatosplenomegaly with impaired liver function[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]
