512 Possible Causes for Hyponatremia, Ileus, Pancreatitis

  • Acute Pancreatitis

Weekend AP admissions were more likely to develop alcohol withdrawal (5.9% vs 5.7%, P 0.001) and ileus (4.1% vs 3.1%, P 0.04).[] Patients with celiac disease have a very high prevalence of acute pancreatitis due to pancreatic insufficiency.[] Jejunal feeding is advocated if gastric feeding fails. 10 However, paralytic ileus is common in SAP and parenteral nutrition (PN) is recommended if enteral feeding has failed[]

  • Acute Intermittent Porphyria

Neurovisceral symptoms resolved, and severe hyponatremia was corrected with IV saline solution without complications.[] Other GI features may include nausea , vomiting, constipation or diarrhea , abdominal distention, and ileus .[] Pancreatic diseases assocated with AIP is rarely reported.[]

  • Cystic Fibrosis

Laboratory analysis on admission showed hyponatremia (115-133 mmol/L, mean 122.4 mmol/L), high plasma renin activity (229-500 pg/ml, mean 324 pg/ml) and metabolic alkalosis[] After birth, 10-15% of newborns with CF may develop intestinal obstruction within a few days of birth because of meconial ileus.1 This obstruction is a result of dehydrated[] Pancreatic cystosis is a rare presentation of cystic fibrosis involving pancreatic gland.[]

  • Loop Diuretic

Additionally, copeptin concentrations did not predict future development of hyponatremia.[] Fatigue, muscle weakness, leg cramps NV, paralytic ileus Soft, flabby muscles Paresthesias, decreased reflexes Weak, irregular pulse Polyuria, hyperglycemia What are 5 key[] A 57-year-old female with cardiomyopathy and "sulfa" (trimethoprim/sulfamethoxazole) allergy documented as pancreatitis presented with symptoms consistent with pancreatitis[]

  • Vomiting

The patient presented with vomiting and pain abdomen, persistent hyponatremia, and terminal hypoglycemia.[] […] expulsion of vomit Intestinal obstruction Peptic ulcer Gastroesophageal reflux disease Gastritis Peritonitis or inflammation of the membranes within the abdomen Paralytic ileus[] […] the pancreatic cancer 4 months before admission.[]

  • Acute Gastroenteritis

Diluted ORS often lead to Hyponatremia.[] […] their child was “dehydrated” and got an IV) CON: Requires more parental/caregiver involvement (we American’s are generally lazy) CON: Can’t be used in the setting of an ileus[] […] of bacterial enteritis Name 3 subtypes of campylobacter What bacterial pathogens most mimic appendicitis List 5 complications of Campylobacter enteritis GBS Cholecystitis Pancreatitis[]

  • Cholelithiasis

Laboratory examination indicated severe hyperkalemia, hyponatremia, metabolic acidosis, and slightly elevated C-reactive protein.[] Two of the patients presented with acute cholangitis and 2 presented with bowel obstruction due to gallstone ileus.[] Glucagon-like peptide 1 receptor agonists (GLP1-RA) have been associated with an increased risk of pancreatitis and pancreatic cancer.[]

  • Sorbitol

No relationship was found between the degree of hyponatremia and operating time, estimated submucosal volume, and uterine volume.[] However, it is known to promote colonic necrosis when sorbitol is also given or especially in patients with renal failure or postoperative ileus.[] […] in FSC-supplemented medium, human colon SW620 and laryngeal carcinoma Hep cells exhibited a lower expression of TfR1-positive cells than nonmalignant Wi38 fibroblasts and pancreatic[]

  • Zollinger Ellison Syndrome

[…] anastomosis (surgical connection areas) adhesions blocking the distal loop metabolic causes of delayed gastric emptying after gastric surgery hypokalemia hypoproteinemia hyponatremia[] Most bowel sounds are normal - Increased bowel sound : obstruction Decrease bowel sound : Ileus Bruit Sound : found on spleen indicate Change in size: Increased liver size[] Chronic alcohol abuse and heavy smoking characterized these patients, and four of them also had pancreatitis, suggesting an association of gastrin-producing tumors and pancreatic[]

  • Captopril

We believe the antidipsogenic effect of captopril may benefit some patients with polydipsia and hyponatremia.[] An ileus pattern was present on abdominal x-ray film. Angioedema was diagnosed, and all signs and symptoms resolved in 24 hours after captopril was discontinued.[] One case of acute pancreatitis associated with captopril, confirmed by a reintroduction, is described in a type II diabetes patient.[]
