27 Possible Causes for Muscle Biopsy Shows Nemaline Rods

  • Nemaline Myopathy

Muscle biopsy showed rods and other typical findings suggesting nemaline myopathy.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] A repeat muscle biopsy in one patient did not show histological progression.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] Histopathology shows characteristic nemaline rods in the muscle biopsy.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

  • Secondary Myopathy

A muscle biopsy was done, which showed features suggestive of nemaline rod myopathy [Figure 1] a-d.[annalsofian.org]

  • Limb-Girdle Muscular Dystrophy

In a female patient with a long duration of symptoms (46 years), muscle biopsy showed, in addition to telethonin deficiency, the presence of nemaline rods, type 1 fiber predominance[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] Here, we identified one additional case carrying the same common c.157C T mutation in the telethonin gene but with an atypical histopathological muscle pattern.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

  • Distal Myopathy

Vastus lateralis muscle biopsies revealed non-specific chronic myopathic features with a few nemaline rods.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] Whole body muscle MR imaging showed more fatty replacement in the distal limb and tongue muscles than in the proximal limb and axial muscles.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

  • Myopathy

Post-treatment muscle biopsy showed fewer nemaline bodies and muscle magnetic resonance image depicted a pronounced reduction of muscular edema.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] The muscle biopsy revealed intracytoplasmic aggregates with appearance of nemaline rod bodies with Gomori trichrome staining and electron microscopy in most fibers.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] A muscle magnetic resonance image showed bilateral fatty infiltration and post-contrast enhancement in the arm and thigh muscles.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

  • Adult-Onset Nemaline Myopathy

A muscle biopsy revealed degeneration of muscle fibres. Electron microscopy showed loss of thick filaments as well as nemaline rods, vacuoles and cytoplasmic bodies.[scinapse.io] (a) Deltoid muscle biopsy with trichrome Gomori staining shows small fuschinophilic intracytoplasmic corpuscles (whitearrows) in some muscle fibers.[docslide.com.br] RESULTS A muscle biopsy showed mild myopathic changes.[unboundmedicine.com]

  • Oculopharyngodistal Myopathy

Muscle biopsy shows clusters of small rods (nemaline bodies), which occur preferentially, but not exclusively, in the sarcoplasm of type 1 muscle fibers.[clinicalgate.com]

  • Zebra Body Myopathy

Muscle biopsy shows nemaline rods and may later show minicores, abnormal protein aggregates, and dystrophic changes (summary by Ockeloen et al., 2012 ).For a discussion of[mendelian.co] Affected individuals have difficulty walking and running due to proximal muscle weakness.[mendelian.co]

  • Cap Myopathy

A repeat muscle biopsy at 6 years showed numerous peripherally located cap-like structures containing nemaline rods and exhibited a spectrum of Z-disk and myofibrillary abnormalities[omicsonline.org] […] and, if combined with the Gomori trichrome staining method, show rod-shaped structures (nemaline bodies) in the sarcolemma and more rarely in the nucleus.[orpha.net] His muscle biopsy at 3 months showed a nemaline myopathy and secondary fiber type disproportion with Type 1 hypotrophy and predominance.[omicsonline.org]

  • Classic Multiminicore Myopathy

Ultrastructural analysis of muscle biopsies.[journals.plos.org] Ultrastructural analysis of the biopsy from patient ARX30 revealed myofibrillar disorganization, Z-line streaming of adjacent sarcomeres (arrows), and prominent nemaline rods[journals.plos.org] The biopsy of patient IM26 showed large disorganized areas around internalized nuclei, the longitudinal muscle section of AKY21 revealed prominent Z-band streaming.[journals.plos.org]
