11 Possible Causes for Pale Ocular Fundus

  • Retinal Perforation

Ocular movements, cornea, anterior chamber, iris, and applanation tonometry of both eyes were all normal.[e-tjo.org] Results of an ocular examination revealed bilateral pale conjunctiva and decreased pupillary light response of right eye.[e-tjo.org] However, results of a fundus examination showed macula-off retinal detachment with vitreous hemorrhage in the right eye [Figure 1].[e-tjo.org]

  • Cavernous Sinus Aneurysm

In the OD ocular fundus, OND was pale pink with distinct contours, the cup/disc ratio was 0.3, and the vascular bundle was in the center.[journals.eco-vector.com] In the OD ocular fundus, the optic nerve disc (OND) was pale pink with distinct contours. The cup/disc ratio was 0.3, and the vascular bundle was in the center.[journals.eco-vector.com]

  • Central Retinal Artery Occlusion

With regards to the ocular fundus, a cherry-red spot can usually be observed in an otherwise pale, ground-glass retina.[symptoma.com]

  • Leber's Hereditary Optic Neuropathy

Fundus examination demonstrated pale optic discs.[scielo.br] The direct and consensual pupillary light reflexes were decreased, whereas the extrinsic ocular motility was normal.[scielo.br]

  • Orbital Pseudotumor

Dilated fundus examination revealed left eye pale disc, cherry red spot and retinal edema along with narrowing of blood vessels with segmental blood flow (Figure 3).[omicsonline.org] Rest ocular examination was unremarkable.[omicsonline.org] The patient was not evaluated with fundus fluorescein angiography and indocyanine green angiography due to his poor systemic conditions.[omicsonline.org]

  • Kearns Sayre Syndrome

Fundus showed a waxy pale disc with marked attenuation of arterioles and pigment clumps at the periphery.[ijo.in] Fundus showed away pale disc with marked attenuation of arterioles. Peripheral fields OU : showed irregular concentric constriction down to radius of 30 o.[ijo.in] OS : - No ptosis, full range of ocular movements in all positions of gaze, the anterior segment was normal.[ijo.in]

  • Ring Chromosome 11 Syndrome

In our case, ocular manifestations such as pigmentation of the retinal and macular area, pale optic fundus and aplasia of the retina have been described in sporadic reports[wjpch.com]

  • Hirschsprung Disease - Deafness - Polydactyly Syndrome

Ocular color abnormalities of WS present in three patterns: heterochromia iridis, bilateral isohypochromia iridis (pale blue eyes), and hypopigmentation of the fundus.[neoreviews.aappublications.org]

  • Lacrimal Duct Defect

Ocular color abnormalities of WS present in three patterns: heterochromia iridis, bilateral isohypochromia iridis (pale blue eyes), and hypopigmentation of the fundus.[neoreviews.aappublications.org]

  • Bardet-Biedl Syndrome Typ 5

Figure 3 Ocular fundus of three siblings with BBS (family VII) with a waxy pale optic disc, atrophy of the choroid, narrow or obliterated vessels, and atypical pigmentation[bjo.bmj.com] Figure 4 Ocular fundus of two siblings with BBS (family I) with typical bone spicules (blurred because of cataract).[bjo.bmj.com]
