16 Possible Causes for Pale Ocular Fundus

  • Cavernous Sinus Aneurysm

In the OD ocular fundus, OND was pale pink with distinct contours, the cup/disc ratio was 0.3, and the vascular bundle was in the center.[journals.eco-vector.com] In the OD ocular fundus, the optic nerve disc (OND) was pale pink with distinct contours. The cup/disc ratio was 0.3, and the vascular bundle was in the center.[journals.eco-vector.com]

  • Kearns Sayre Syndrome

Fundus showed a waxy pale disc with marked attenuation of arterioles and pigment clumps at the periphery.[ijo.in] Fundus showed away pale disc with marked attenuation of arterioles. Peripheral fields OU : showed irregular concentric constriction down to radius of 30 o .[ijo.in] OS : - No ptosis, full range of ocular movements in all positions of gaze, the anterior segment was normal.[ijo.in]

  • Optic Nerve Infarction

Ocular mobility was full with a coarse gaze-evoked nystagrnus. Fundus examination revealed a pale milky swelling of the optic disc.[ijo.in] Ocular mobility was full in all directions. Fundus examination of both eyes showed that the ocular media were clear.[ijo.in] The optic discs were pale with ill-defined margins and a pale milky swelling. The retina in each eye appeared normal, apart from moderate narrowing of the arterioles.[ijo.in]

  • Central Retinal Artery Occlusion

With regards to the ocular fundus, a cherry-red spot can usually be observed in an otherwise pale, ground-glass retina.[symptoma.com] Left eye fundus examination was within normal limits [ Figure 2b ]. Extra-ocular movements were normal on both sides. The findings suggested CRAO.[surgicalneurologyint.com] Figure 2 (a) Fundus picture of the right eye on presentation showed the presence of normal disc and vasculature but pale retina with cherry red spot on the macula.[surgicalneurologyint.com]

  • Retinal Artery Occlusion

  • Orbital Pseudotumor

Dilated fundus examination revealed left eye pale disc, cherry red spot and retinal edema along with narrowing of blood vessels with segmental blood flow (Figure 3).[omicsonline.org] Rest ocular examination was unremarkable.[omicsonline.org] The patient was not evaluated with fundus fluorescein angiography and indocyanine green angiography due to his poor systemic conditions.[omicsonline.org]

  • Albinism-Deafness Syndrome

Ocular color abnormalities of WS present in three patterns: heterochromia iridis, bilateral isohypochromia iridis (pale blue eyes), and hypopigmentation of the fundus.[neoreviews.aappublications.org]

  • Bardet-Biedl Syndrome Typ 5
