155 Possible Causes for Paraspinal Masses, Soft Tissue Mass

  • Malignant Peripheral Nerve Sheath Tumor

A 67-year-old woman with a history of breast cancer presented with a soft tissue mass at the site of a remote, non-neoplastic lumbar surgery.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] Imaging detected a paraspinal mass of the deep superior cervical chain next to the internal carotid artery.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] Three-tesla magnetic resonance imaging of the brachial plexus showed a soft tissue mass with central necrosis and cystic changes and irregular contrast enhancement.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

  • Angiomatosis

Radiation therapy on bone or soft tissue masses was ineffective, as was interferon alpha, in the 2 patients in which this drug was tested.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] A roentgenogram of the chest showed that the patient had left pleural effusion and a left paraspinal mass, computed tomography disclosed a low-density fusiform lesion over[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] Patients have soft tissue masses, bone pain and bone fractures caused by cyst growth.[stanfordhealthcare.org]

  • Carcinoma of the Lung

A CT scan of his chest showed an ovoid mass in the lower lobe of the left lung, and an MRI of the spine showed a left lateral paraspinal soft tissue mass causing central canal[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] A CT scan of his chest showed an ovoid mass in the lower lobe of the left lung, and an MRI of the spine showed a left lateral paraspinal soft tissue mass causing central canal[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

  • Lumbar Radiculopathy

We report a patient who presented with left lumbar radiculopathy, and a peripherally-enhancing dumbbell shaped soft tissue mass involving both the intraspinal and extraspinal[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] Magnetic resonance imaging of the lumbar spine revealed a large paraspinal mass that invaded the L-5 vertebral body and the left foramen of L5-S1.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] Histological examination revealed cartilaginous tissue.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

  • Lymphoblastic Lymphoma

We describe a young man who presented with neurological signs and symptoms, and with a paraspinal soft tissue mass involving the vertebral body at T4.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] We describe a young man who presented with neurological signs and symptoms, and with a paraspinal soft tissue mass involving the vertebral body at T4.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] However, he experienced relapse 10 months later with a soft tissue mass close to and involving the posteroinferior aspect of the sternum.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

  • Extramedullary Hematopoiesis

Endobronchial ultrasound-guided fine needle aspiration of the soft tissue mass and mediastinoscopy with excisional biopsy of a paratracheal lymph node demonstrated EMH with[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] Fig. 2 Pathology of the thoracic paraspinal mass. The thoracic paraspinal mass was resected. H & E stain reviewed dense hematopoietic tissues.[biomarkerres.biomedcentral.com] Computed tomography (CT) revealed soft tissue masses in the left kidney along the capsule and paraaortic region that were of relatively low attenuation with accompanying granular[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

  • Myeloid Metaplasia

Further studies are needed to elucidate potential therapies and the incidence of these soft tissue masses due to myeloid metaplasia.[elynsgroup.com] Paraspinal Masses Due to Myeloid Metaplasia Download PDF Published Date: May 23, 2016 Paraspinal Masses Due to Myeloid Metaplasia Jacques M.[elynsgroup.com] Figure 2: Computed Tomograhy of the chest with Intravenous contrast showing the presence of large paravertebral soft tissue masses measuring 6.8 cm/4.2 cm on the right and[elynsgroup.com]

  • Ruptured Aortic Aneurysm

Computed tomography with small field of view, performed for the detection of a possible lumbar disc herniation, only partially showed a paraspinal soft tissue mass.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] […] of mixed / soft-tissue density lateral "draping" of aneurysm around vertebral body Angio focally widened aortic lumen 3 cm apparent normal size of lumen secondary to mural[learningradiology.com] Computed tomography with small field of view, performed for the detection of a possible lumbar disc herniation, only partially showed a paraspinal soft tissue mass.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

  • Neuroblastoma

mass.[radiopaedia.org] The images showed a left paraspinal mass at the lumbar level invading the spinal canal, which suggested possible neuroblastoma.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] Symptoms produced by the presence of the mass depend on its proximity to vital structures and usually progress over time.[emedicine.medscape.com]

  • Chordoma

tissue Plain x-ray (Fig. 1-3) • Midline bone lytic lesion with focus in the vertebral body • Surrounding soft tissue mass • Invade intervertebral discs and contiguous vertebras[tumorsurgery.org] We present an unusual case of a chordoma presenting as an extradural spinal tumour with extension through an expanded intervertebral foramen to form a large paraspinal mass[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] tissue mass.[thedoctorsdoctor.com]
