186 Possible Causes for Parotid Mass

  • Pleomorphic Adenoma

We report a case of a 77-year-old man, who presented with a 6-year history of a parotid mass that had undergone rapid growth within weeks.[] A large mass with a heterogeneous medial portion involves primarily the deep lobe of the parotid gland.[] Magnetic resonance imaging revealed an infiltrative mass in the parotid gland, and the fine-needle aspiration (FNA) biopsy result was highly suspicious for carcinoma.[]

  • Sialadenitis

A 52-year-old man presented with a left parotid mass. Fine needle aspiration biopsy was consistent with Warthin's tumor. The mass lesion was excised.[] We report the case of a man with a parotid mass that exhibited features consistent with an inflammatory process on fine-needle aspiration biopsy.[] FNAC of palpable lymph node is mandatory for parotid mass where FNAC of parotid is inconclusive.[]

  • Malignant Parotid Tumor

FNAC of palpable lymph node is mandatory for parotid mass where FNAC of parotid is inconclusive.[] Computerized tomography revealed a heterogeneous mass in the parotid region ( Figure 1 ). An incisional biopsy was performed.[] Parotid masses occur most commonly in the lower pole, or tail, and in the superficial lobe of the gland.[]

  • Sialolithiasis

Parotid masses: MR imaging. Radiology 1987 ; 163 : 405 -409 Mandelblatt SM, Braun IF, Davis PC, Fry SM, Jacobs LH, Hoffman Jr JC. Parotid masses: MR imaging.[] Abstract Hemangiomas are the most common masses of the major salivary glands in parotid glands in childhood particularly.[] MR imaging of the parotid gland in Sjögren's syndrome: a proposal for a new diagnostic criteria.[]

  • Uveoparotid Fever

-parotid: u/l or b/l often in children (sudden onset) -paramyxovirus- virmeia -elevation of AB to S & V virus antigens OR by isolation of virus in urine (as long as 2 wk)[] […] enlargement, facial palsy, uveitis Wegener's Granulomatosis Acute unilateral mass /- pain Sialadenosis Chronic, bilateral, diffuse, non-inflammatory, non-neoplastic, painless[] -tail of partook gland -aspiration or excision- often recur -non Hodgkin & kaposi's sarcoma -fine needle aspiration or exisional biopsy of masses to dx malignancy mumps: gland[]

  • Necrotizing Sialometaplasia

We report a case of necrotizing sialometaplasia diagnosed after superficial parotidectomy due to bilateral parotid masses in a 69-year old heavy smoking female.[] The border between the mass and the normal parotid gland tissue was unclear, suggesting the inflammatory mass in the parotid gland tail ( Figure 3 ).[] A 66-year-old male had left neck and pharyngeal masses and biopsy specimen showed a monotonous proliferation of atypical lymphoid cells with massive necrosis in the parotid[]

  • Parotid Duct Obstruction

masses poorly defined by magnetic resonance imaging.[] Of the parotid gland masses, 75% are tumours, of which 80% are benign (non cancerous). The most common benign parotid tumour is a pleomorphic adenoma.[] Surgical treatment for parotid lumps If a mass has developed within the salivary gland, removal will usually be recommended – most masses in the parotid gland area are benign[]

  • Ganglion Cyst

Abstract Ganglion cysts of the temporomandibular joint are very rare and always misdiagnosed as synovial cyst, parotid gland tumor, or other cystic lesions.[] Image studies could facilitate to identify the tumor mass from the adjacent soft tissue, but a definitive diagnosis could be made from the pathologic report.A 59-year-old[]

  • Pregnancy

Imaging and biopsy were consistent with parotid gland malignancy, with surgical resection undertaken at 33 4 weeks' gestation.[] The mass had been stable for more than 10 years, but showed rapid growth during pregnancy.[] Abstract A 27-year-old woman presented with an enlarging painless right preauricular mass at 28 weeks' pregnant.[]

  • Kimura Disease

On MR the nodes had high T1-weighted and T2-weighted signal intensities as did portions of the parotid mass. There were suspected flow voids in the parotid mass.[] Any parotid mass found in a patient of Far-Eastern origin showing hypereosinophilia should suggest a diagnosis of intraparotid Kimura disease.[] Kimura's disease presenting as bilateral parotid masses.
