78 Possible Causes for Pneumonia due to Immunodeficiency

  • Pharyngitis

Pharyngitis due to viruses is often associated with respiratory symptoms such as rhinorrhea, nasal congestion and cough.[] Viruses that cause pharyngitis include Epstein-Barr virus (EBV), herpes simplex virus (HSV), adenovirus, enterovirus, human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), cytomegalovirus ([] (or Group A streptococcus), as well as, Corynebacterium diphtheriae, Arcanobacterium haemolyticum, Neisseria gonorrhoeae, Group C and Group G streptococci and Mycoplasma pneumoniae[]

  • Streptococcus Pneumoniae

Here we report a case of meningeal co-infection with cryptococcus neoformans and streptococcus pneumoniae in a patient with unknown human immunodeficiency virus status.[] Mixed meningeal infections due to bacteria and fungi are exceptionally rare.[]

  • Atypical Pneumonia

Pneumonia due to Chlamydia pneumoniae, Legionella pneumophila or Mycoplasma pneumoniae seems to be rare in Danish human immunodeficiency virus-infected patients, but might[] By culture and staining methods 106 other microorganisms were detected with P. carinii and Streptococcus pneumoniae as the most frequently occurring.[]

  • Gram-Negative Septicaemia

We believe that the fatal outcome of this case was due to the patient's severe underlying clinical condition, immunodeficiency, and the continuation of inappropriate antibiotic[] […] therapy, which had been initiated to treat the original diagnosis of lobar pneumonia that was assumed to be caused by pneumococci or possibly by Mycoplasma.[]
