2 Possible Causes for Poor Response to G-CSF Treatment

  • Kostmann Syndrome

She showed poor response to the G-CSF during stringent surveillance.[] Patient was treated with the granulocyte-colony stimulating factor (G-CSF) as prevention of infectious manifestations along with appropriate measure to curb secondary complications[] After being on treatment for 1 year, she developed acute myelogenous leukemia as inherit complication of this disease.[]

  • Autosomal Dominant Severe Congenital Neutropenia

About 90% of SCN patients respond to G-CSF treatment, but the remainder have only a temporary or no response to G-CSF ( 16 ).[] The treatment of choice for SCN is G-CSF to which 2/3 of patients should respond; while SCT is reserved for cases of poor response or those evolving to myelodysplastic syndrome[] Although the predictors of poor response are not yet demonstrated, most refractory cases have very low initial ANC levels.[]
