859 Possible Causes for Tachycardia, Weak Pulse

  • Pneumonia

A 23-month-old girl visited the emergency department with high fever, cough, first wheezing episode, chest retraction and tachycardia.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] They may seem weak, vomit, or have diarrhea. Less common symptoms include abdominal pain and a stiff neck.[babycenter.com] One week after admission, she developed fever, dyspnea, hypoxemia, tachycardia, and increased serum C-reactive protein level.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

  • Cardiac Tamponade

Despite compensatory tachycardia, the decrease in cardiac filling leads to a fall in cardiac output and to arterial hypoperfusion of vital organs.[doi.org] Cold, clammy skin and a weak pulse due to hypotension are also observed in patients with tamponade.[emedicine.medscape.com] These are low blood pressure or weak pulse, extended neck veins, and a rapid heartbeat combined with a muffled heart sound.[belmarrahealth.com]

  • Cardiogenic Shock

A 74-year-old woman presenting with sepsis demonstrated AF tachycardia characterised by severe hypotension.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] The signs and symptoms of cardiogenic shock include rapid and weak pulse, rapid breathing, anxiety, large neck (jugular) veins, cool skin, weakness and fatigue, decreased[traumasurvivorsnetwork.org] In view of persistent tachycardia (heart rate 160/min), catecholamine storm was suspected and prazosin was added. However, shock was refractory.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

  • Hypovolemic Shock

Symptoms include: Anxiety Low or no urine output Profuse sweating Dizziness Confusion Loss of consciousness Chest pain Tachycardia with weak pulse Hypotension Decreased urine[symptoma.com] Symptoms of shock include Confusion or lack of alertness Loss of consciousness Sudden and ongoing rapid heartbeat Sweating Pale skin A weak pulse Rapid breathing Decreased[icdlist.com] Abstract Severe bleeding and hypovolemic shock causing hypotension are most often associated with tachycardia.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

  • Atrial Fibrillation

The complex structure and special conductive properties of the SVC can result in complicated atrial tachycardia (AT), atrial flutter, or AF.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] Upon physical examinations, pulses and auscultatory findings will reveal an irregularly regular rhythm.[symptoma.com] In people with atrial flutter, the pulse is usually rapid and can be regular or irregular.[merckmanuals.com]

  • Datura Stramonium Poisoning

The patient presented with a typical anticholinergic syndrome (dryness of mouth, mydriasis, flushing, tachycardia, agitation, hallucinations) and was treated with symptomatic[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] pulse, convulsions, and coma Toxic Principle: Tropane alkaloids Severity: Toxic only if large quantities are eaten.[plants.ces.ncsu.edu] Blockade of visceral muscarinic receptors produces the following effects 1 Heart -diminished vagal tone at the SA node causes relative tachycardia 2 Blood vessels- vasoconstriction[usmle1-topscorer.blogspot.com]

  • Heart Failure

Abstract We describe the novel use of bilateral cardiac sympathectomy in a woman with end-stage heart failure caused by ventricular tachycardia refractory to standard medical[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] During the physical exam, the doctor will check for a weak or rapid pulse rate, enlargement of the heart, swollen neck veins, swelling of the liver, fluid retention, sounds[advocatehealth.com] Common symptoms are: Cough Fatigue, weakness, faintness Loss of appetite Need to urinate at night Pulse that feels fast or irregular, or a sensation of feeling the heartbeat[nlm.nih.gov]

  • Myocardial Infarction

[…] coronary infarction as in heart disease as in cardiac arrest as in heart attack Synonyms for myocardial infarction cardiac arrest congestive heart failure heart failure tachycardia[thesaurus.com] It is often thought to present with a triad of clinical symptoms: (1) intermittent lower extremity vascular claudication, (2) impotence, and (3) weak/absent femoral pulses[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] Rapid and weak pulse. Perspiration/sweating. The most common symptom is severe chest pain, which often feels like a heavy pressure feeling on your chest.[patient.info]

  • Acute Myocardial Infarction

After 48h following the accident, the patient's condition rapidly deteriorated, with severe dyspnea at rest, tachycardia, and increasing chest pain.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] Rapid and weak pulse. Perspiration/sweating. The most common symptom is severe chest pain, which often feels like a heavy pressure feeling on your chest.[patient.co.uk] […] score includes 8 variables [age, systolic blood pressure, heart rate, initial glomerular filtration rate (GFR), serum glucose, Killip class, cardiac arrest, ventricular tachycardia[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

  • Septic Shock

It is marked by hypotension, oliguria, tachycardia and confusion.[symptoma.com] Hypotension was present in 34% ( n 120); the most common findings were tachycardia ( n 251 [73%]) and skin-color changes ( n 269 [78%]).[pediatrics.aappublications.org] The signs and symptoms of shock include Hypotension (systolic blood pressure below 90 mmHg) Weak, rapid pulse Tachypnea (more than 20 breaths per minute) due to acidosis Flushing[symptoma.com]
