Skull Thickening [Expansion of calvaria and/or skull base, often associated with sclerosis] Skull thickening is an aspecific diagnostic sign that occurs in a number of congenital[rrnursingschool.biz] Occasionally, the pattern of skull involvement is one of extensive thickening and sclerosis of the skull base and sphenoid wings (Fig. 1.27a-c), a pattern shared with Paget[rrnursingschool.biz] The pattern of skull involvement in the autosomal recessive dysosteosclero-sis (OMIM 224300) includes thickening of the cranial vault and skull base, sclerosis of the orbital[rrnursingschool.biz]

  • Meningitis

Brain magnetic resonance imaging showed dural thickening at the bilateral skull base and near the left orbital apex.[omicsonline.org] Magnetic resonance imaging revealed thickening of the meninges with enhancement near the superior sagittal sinus; skull bone defect was also noted.[paperity.org]

  • Arthrogryposis Multiplex Congenita

Radiographic documentation showed significant sclerosis and thickening at the skull base with further extension to involve the craniocervical junction.[casesjournal.biomedcentral.com] There was thickening and sclerosis of the base of the skull, but a normal density and thickness of the vault was present. The anterior fontanelle is still opened.[casesjournal.biomedcentral.com] Figure 1 Lateral skull radiograph shows a deformational brachycephalic skull.[casesjournal.biomedcentral.com]
