170 Possible Causes for Type-2-Muscle Fiber Atrophy

  • Steroid Myopathy

T2 relaxation time is mainly due to increased ECSR reflecting type 2 muscle fiber atrophy.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] Muscle biopsies from chronic steroid (glucocorticoid) myopathy, non-steroid histochemical type-2 fiber atrophy, and muscle denervation patients were studied to determine if[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] Muscle biopsy may show type 2 fiber atrophy. Cachectic myopathy remains a diagnosis of exclusion.[frontiersin.org]

  • Lumbar Disk Herniation

Patients with lumbar disk herniation showed atrophy of type 1 and type 2 fibers with structural changes in the multifidus muscle at the involved level.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] Furthermore, patients with abnormal EMG results had severe muscle atrophy compared with patients with normal EMG results.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] Biopsy specimens were obtained intraoperatively from the L5 band of the multifidus muscle on the affected and unaffected sides.[ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

  • Paraneoplastic Syndrome

Mild distal weakness 2 axonal neuropathy: Less prominent than sensory change Proximal weakness 2 type II muscle fiber atrophy Progression Slow Occurs later in course of disease[neuromuscular.wustl.edu] : Proximal 2 Type II muscle fiber atrophy Weakness: Proximal & Distal sparing intermediate muscles Disabling "specific" syndromes: Less common Signs due to cell death (e.g[neuromuscular.wustl.edu] 2 muscle fiber atrophy (Cachectic myopathy) Especially with weight loss 15% Wasting weakness Neoplasms: Multiple types Anti-Decorin (BJ) myopathy Clinical 50 years of age[neuromuscular.wustl.edu]

  • Idiopathic Hypereosinophilic Syndrome

Muscle biopsy showed type 2 muscle fibers atrophy with discrete inflammatory cells, predominantly lymphocytic in perivascular and interstitial locations.[doaj.org]

  • Congenital Myasthenic Syndrome

Muscle biopsy showed type 2-fiber atrophy, without tubular aggregates.[pagepressjournals.org] Facial nerve repetitive stimulation in the proband showed decrement of muscle responses. Single fiber EMG revealed increased jitter and blocking.[pagepressjournals.org]
