730 Possible Causes for Vitreous Hemorrhage

  • Central Retinal Vein Occlusion

Laser surgery does not remove existing vitreous hemorrhage, and blood may prohibit in-office treatment.[] Complications include vitreous hemorrhages and choroidal neovascularization at the anastomosis site.[] The postoperative complications observed were prolonged vitreous hemorrhage in one eye and neovascular glaucoma in two eyes.[]

  • Eales Disease

The primary outcome measures were reduction in the grade of vitreous hemorrhage and the need for vitrectomy.[] Spaide RF, Fisher YL (2006) Intravitreal bevacizumab (Avastin) treatment of proliferative diabetic retinopathy complicated by vitreous hemorrhage.[] Veno-venous shunts were found in 12 (48%) eyes, and 18 (72%) eyes had vitreous hemorrhage.[]

  • Peripheral Vasoproliferative Retinopathy

  • Branch Retinal Vein Occlusion

Twenty-eight of 358 (7.8%) BRVO patients had vitreous hemorrhage. In this group of 28 patients, 24 of the 28 (85.7%) had NVE.[] Despite photocoagulation, the patient had frequent recurrent episodes of vitreous hemorrhage.[] A 60-year-old woman presented with recurrent vitreous hemorrhage originating from active retinovitreal neovascularization secondary to branch retinal vein occlusion.[]

  • Diabetic Retinopathy

Intravitreal bevacizumab resulted in marked regression of neovascularization and rapid resolution of vitreous hemorrhage.[] After intravitreal injection of bevacizumab, 4 (50%) eyes had clearance of vitreous hemorrhage.[] Vitrectomy had previously been performed in his right eye for vitreous hemorrhage due to PDR.[]

  • Retinal Perforation

Vitreous hemorrhage which occurred in our case may herald a malignant melanoma that has perforated the retina.[] Vitreous hemorrhages may also layer inferiorly due to gravitational forces. Figure 7: Bright echoes in the posterior chamber demonstrating vitreous hemorrhage.[] The operation was further complicated with unstoppable vitreous hemorrhage.[]

  • Vitreous Hemorrhage

[…] different types of vitreous hemorrhage.[] Posterior vitreous detachment accounts for 3.7–11.7% of vitreous hemorrhage cases.[] Consecutive, referred sample of six patients ( 1 year old) with dense vitreous hemorrhages. The causes of the vitreous hemorrhages were varied.[]

  • Retinopathy of Prematurity

No vitreous hemorrhage or other complication occurred in the first six months after surgery.[] Vitreous hemorrhage following bevacizumab injections have been rarely reported in infants with ROP, and the need for treatment of these hemorrhages remains in question.[] In this report, we describe a child with retinopathy of prematurity and tractional schisis, who initially presented with vitreous hemorrhage and was effectively managed by[]

Giant cell arteritis with arteritic anterior ischemic optic neuropathy has rarely been diagnosed in Taiwan. Recently, we encountered a 76-year-old Taiwanese patient who presented with right visual impairment and marked pale swelling of his right disc. He also suffered body weight loss, general malaise and many typical[…][]
