Thyrotoxic Periodic Paralysis

My daughter is on Synthroid for hypothyroidism for the last 15 years. She passed out in church and couldn't speak or open her eyes when she awoke. She said she could think but couldn't open her jaw to speak and couldn't open her eyelids. She was taken to ER and told she had a low potassium level. She was given oral potassium and after 2 hours her symptoms abated and she was sent home to follow up with her doctor. Should she see her family doctor or should she been seen by an endocrinologist?

An endocrinologist may be more familiar with the disorder.
